3 Fall Jackets To Spice Up Your Wardrobe

Ladies and gentlemen, fall fashion is finally back! After a summer of cut-off shorts and fun times, it’s time to return to the cozy trends of layering scarves, jackets, and socks. With cooler temperatures comes the need to layer on a jacket or two, especially when transitioning your summer pieces into a more fall-appropriate look. Jackets have to be my favorite way to do that. Here are three essential jackets that make your look stand out.

1—Denim jackets

This is the most quintessential piece for transitioning summer looks into fall. A denim jacket goes well with brighter pieces and helps to tone it down a bit for the season. There are a wide range of fits and washes for any look. I love pairing light wash, cropped denim jackets with a summer dress, a scarf, and booties for an ultimate fall-chic look. If I would rather wear pants, an oversize medium wash jacket adds a cool, edgy look to any basic T-shirt. Don’t be afraid to wear denim-on-denim, either! Embrace the ’90s trend and all its glory this fall.

2—Trench coats

Trench coats are the hidden gem missing from a lot of closets. Whenever I imagine a woman wearing a trench coat, I also picture her as very confident and smart. Take advantage of that! Feeling under the weather one day? Throw a trench coat on to remind yourself of how strong and beautiful you are. It’s an instant confidence booster. Trench coats can look extra chic paired with black skinny jeans and top. They are also great for layering over chunky sweaters.

3—Statement jackets

Nothing makes more of a statement than a cool patterned or embroidered jacket. Who says all jackets need to be basics? They can be statement pieces too! The great thing about statement jackets is that you can wear the most basic outfit and it will still stand out with a statement jacket. Throw it over your go-to jeans and T-shirt look or a simple dress. Use the jacket as an accessory when you style it. You can wear it normally for a more functional purpose, drape it over your shoulders for an instant chic vibe, or tie it around your waist for a slimming affect.

My All-Time Favorite Denim Jacket

Denim jackets have always been around; sometimes they are an essential piece while other times they are more of a unique piece you can add to a look. Honestly, right when denim jackets were making a comeback, I went everywhere to find a unique one. I was looking for one a little oversize and retro, but I wasn’t lucky enough. I literally looked in every single store and tried every single piece but I just couldn’t find what I was looking for.

A few months later, my oldest sister was cleaning up her closet and she had two big plastic bags sitting outside of her room full of clothes she was going to giveaway. She asked me to look inside and see if there was something I wanted to keep and so I did. I opened up one of the bags and I found this vintage denim jacket that she wouldn’t take off back in the ’90s. You cannot believe how happy I was when I found it because it was exactly what I was dreaming of. Plus, it fit perfectly and from that moment on, there is no outfit of mine that doesn’t include my all-time-favorite denim jacket.

Some of my friends were crazy about it too and looked online for my jacket thinking it was brand new, but when I told them the story, they were so disappointed.

I remember being 10 or 11 years old when I was “rocking” the denim jacket trend for the first time, but the trend faded. So now that I’m officially living in this trend, I try to wear it all the time in different and fun ways.

I have even worn it with fancy outfits at night; this sounds risky, but somehow gives my outfit an edgy vibe and I like that. Also, it has been great during this summer when it gets a little chilly at night and obviously it is going to be my go-to piece for the fall.

Even though this is my favorite denim jacket, I have found more favorites. Some skinnier and with a different tone of blue, which has helped to have a million more options to pair it with. This has also given me the chance to add patches and pins to them. Denim jackets are such a fun and huge trend and I’m so glad they are here to stay.

Jackets in July—Making Them Work Even in the Hottest Heat

If you are anything like me, you know that a jacket is your best friend. But what about when summer rolls around and the temperature is way above jeans and a cardigan weather? You wear it anyway.

It’s not sweater weather just yet, but a girl can dream. Making a jacket work in the summer sounds simple, but if I have learned anything at all from living in California is that nothing should ever be that simple. I believe that outfits should always show what you love and inspire others to wear what they love.

For this outfit, I styled high-waisted shorts with a white crop top for the basics. These shorts are guaranteed to give you legs for days—and maybe a bit of booty on one of those days. If you think a crop top isn’t giving your outfit enough edge, bandeaus or bralettes are great replacements.

Shoes should always be comfortable, but stylish. Flats are an easy go-to fix for this summer outfit. Personally, I think pointed toe flats give outfits a chic look, not too casual but not too over the top either.

Top off the outfit with a jacket, and don’t think that a fitted jacket is always the best. Try oversize jackets and roll up the sleeves. Wear it over your shoulders for a comfy look that will have everyone asking you about it.

Jackets come in all shapes and designs that may feel a bit odd to wear. Let your Fashionista run wild this summer and try styling your jacket a little differently this time!

The Perfect ’80s Revival Styles

Most of us, I’m sure, have heard from parents or family members about the big ’80s fashions from the big shoulder pads, animal prints on everything and where a denim jacket was a staple in everyone’s closets. It was hard to believe them when they said that’s what was in fashion, but surprisingly enough, these are all making a comeback this year.

Styles that were huge in the ’80s have already slowly been creeping back into our closets in recent months. We have already seen a huge increase in the wearing of denim jackets; styles range from ripped to acid washed and patched. I’m sure we have all, myself included, have made fun of old pictures of our family where there are huge shoulder pads in jackets and giant jean jackets with neon colors flashing all over. We were wondering what was running through their heads when getting dressed. Well, in a short amount of time, we could be taking on our own version of these styles. Fur jackets and fur vests made a comeback this winter, and fun furs that are brightly colored and non-form fitting clothing are around the corner for us. Metallic fabrics and gold lamé will be lighting up your closet, just like they had in the ’80s. A bold neon lip color to accent your mirrored sunglasses will have your face stand out from the crowd. With your metallic and furs, you will be pairing a wide waist-cinching belt to complete your look. Everything is becoming big again from your shoulder pads to your belts all the way back to the big ’80s hair. So get your hairspray ready and your neon lips plumped for this ’80s comeback year.

Along with these few ’80s-inspired styles, there are so many more ideas for reviving that ’80s fashion into the 21st century. To be honest, it will be interesting to see how bulky our shoulders get and how cinched our waists become.

3 Outfit Ideas for Your Next Concert

Summer break is time to hang out with friends, explore new places, and go to as many concerts as your wallet will allow. This also means that music festival season is here, which calls for bold prints, lots of glitter, and chunky sandals. You can throw on your wildest, most creative outfit and look festival ready. So now that we have festival fashion down, what does one wear to concerts? Concerts are a time to wear your most edgy and daring outfits. You can finally wear those heels hiding at the bottom of your closet and that body-con dress you knew you’d never wear but couldn’t resist buying. You can combine your favorite jeans with a fun pair of heels and call it a look.

Below are three looks I’ve complied that are perfect for any concert.

Outfit 1:
An oversized denim jacket has the ability to make any outfit cool and trendy. When paired with this black pinstripe minidress, the two give off major 90s vibes. I paired them with this unique purse made of 45 records and black ankle sock booties for the off-duty model look.

Outfit 2:
The duster coat is a trend celebrities have been loving over the past year. Throw one on over jeans and a T-shirt or even a cocktail dress to create an effortlessly chic look. Here, I paired the coat with a plaid minidress and lace pumps, a look that can go from day to night with just a quick change of shoes.

Outfit 3:
For the jeans and T-shirt kind of girls who just want to amp it up a little bit, this suede fringe jacket is perfect. Pair it with bell bottoms for a 70s vibe, or a lace bralette with chokers for a trendy and comfortable look.

So there you have it: My three basic-without-being-basic concert outfits. From the oversized denim jacket and the celebrity-loved duster coat, to the 70s suede fringe jacket, any of these looks is perfect for your next concert.

Cute, Casual, and Chic

Nina Garcia once said, “If my closet were burning, it’d be my collection of jackets I would save—they always make me feel pulled together.” I definitely live by these words; sometimes all we need is a statement or casual jacket to make an outfit feel complete.

We are currently in the season where we expect hot summer weather but that is not always the case for everyone. This time of year, it’s essential for people to bring a jacket with them when out on the town. Most people, like myself, hate having to cover up their outfit with a jacket when it’s chilly outside. Luckily, this Fashionista has found the perfect cover up!

It is no secret that olive green has become very popular over the years and for some it has become a staple color in their wardrobe. It’s easy for people to mix and match different jackets, shirts, and pants, however, having a go-to staple colored jacket would make picking out an outfit undoubtedly easier for many. I love how this olive green jacket complemented the green in this Fashionista’s shirt. This jacket would also be great with a basic black or white shirt to give the outfit a little pop.

The first time this Fashionista tried on this jacket she was obsessed. She was almost wishing the weather would stay chilly just so she could wear it, but it also looks great when tied around the waist. This outfit was paired with white high-waisted shorts and wedges to give it a fancier look, but you could always wear sandals to be a bit more casual. That is what I love about this outfit—it can easily be dressed up or down with accessories, but has the cute and casual look no matter which you choose.

The Fashionista decided to pair gold and dressy jewelry with this outfit. She wore a trendy necklace, a few bracelets, rings, and her Michael Kors watch. Pairing different jewelry with a certain outfit is definitely essential to get the look you wish for. I love the way gold and olive green complement each other. This outfit gives off a big summer vibe with the floral pattern on the shirt and white on the shoes and shorts.

A basic makeup look was chosen to go with this outfit along with a rosy pink lipstick. This is definitely a go-to lipstick color. It complements the pink in the shirt perfectly and gives an amazing daytime shine to any outfit. I think each accessory paired with this outfit makes it look very complete and thought out, and it can easily be thrown together.

This outfit is perfect for any casual yet fun event. I love how dressed up or down this look can be with the help of accessories. This outfit shows how it is definitely possible to look cute, casual and chic.

4 Ways to Wear Denim-On-Denim for the Summer

Denim-on-denim is scary. Many people think that the ’80s ruined it for everyone, but just because some think that denim-on-denim doesn’t work, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. When Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears went out to the American Music Awards with their memorable all-denim outfits, they didn’t let their fear of denim-on-denim effect them and neither should it affect you. Now you don’t have to go to the same extreme as Justin and Britney. Here are four simple ways to let denim-on-denim back into your life.

1—Same tone denim. No one can ever go wrong with a denim cropped jacket and a pair of statement jeans. When you do the same tone of denim, it is fun to add in colors. White is an eye-catching color to add with same tone denim. It keeps it chic without being too overwhelming for the eye.

2—Two tone denim. 2017 is the time of statement denim, whether it be your pant or your jacket. Wearing a single tone denim jacket with a contrasting denim pant is not a crime, but actually a quick, cute outfit to go on adventures in. I personally am a fan of pairing dark denim with a lighter denim piece. This gives your outfit texture without looking too monotone.

3—Denim accessories. I am obsessed with denim accessories. A denim choker with a denim jacket will complete any outfit. Denim accessories are fun because they don’t have to match the tone of another piece of denim. They add another dimension to your outfit that makes a statement.

4—As a coverup. Wearing a denim skirt along with a denim jacket as you are going to the beach can make your quick beach trip into a day out while still looking chic. It is also nice if you are not too comfortable with the denim-on-denim look because you can take it off while at the beach. Wearing a simple one-piece suit will bring your outfit completely together.

Have fun with creating your own take on how to wear denim-on-denim this summer. All trends need your own personal spin on it, and we want to see yours.

The ’90s Trend That Will Complete Any Outfit

Welcome to the ’90s! Or, I guess, welcome back to the ’90s if you already lived and thrived in those groovy years of denim and plastic hair accessories.  If you’re like me, however, you were born near the back end of the decade and never got the chance to appreciate the fashion or any other sign of the time.  Luckily for us, lately ’90s trends are back and better than ever. So, reach to the back of your closet (and your parents’/older siblings’ closets), and prepare to dig through for gems from the past.

The oversize jacket is one of my favorite additions to give a simple outfit a bit of the cool factor. The oversize jacket trend happened to be a huge hit in the ’90s as well. Above, I styled a simple black skirt and plain white T-shirt with a Nike windbreaker that gives off some casual but edgy streetwear vibes. The baggy windbreaker brings back the ’90s feels, but the simple sophistication of the rest of the outfit makes it perfect for strutting down the streets in this decade.

An oversize jacket can either accent a fantastic outfit, or become the center of attention itself. For a second rad look with this trend, I utilized a different jumbo jacket as more of a statement piece. This one came with an additional blast from the past: the camo trend.

Pairing an old military jacket with a graphic T-shirt and black leggings will keep things casual but maintain your cool girl style. The best part is, we didn’t spend a dime on these new fits! Both of these spunky jackets were lying around, just waiting to be found and flaunted by a Fashionista like yourself.

Looking at trends form the past is a fun way to enlighten your style and change up your look. Comment below to share your thoughts on threads inspired by a decade not so long ago!

How to Style the Bomber Jacket Trend

I believe that everyone should have at least one bomber jacket in their closet. I will be showing you how you can style a bomber jacket on both females and males. The trick is “less is more.” I like to pair my bomber with a plain white T-shirt and ripped jeans. Also, I like to rip my own jeans, because it gives a unique personal style to my outfits.

Bomber jackets have been around for a very long time. But they were very low-key and expensive, so you had to be making big bucks to be able to afford one. Since 2016, they have been making their way back in style. Every retail store has their own version, so you can find them at affordable prices.

Firstly, I will be showing you how to style a bomber jacket on guys. There are so many different ways you can style a bomber jacket, and that’s one of the reasons why I love these jackets so much. The bomber jacket is very versatile. Here, I have paired a black bomber with a white button-down shirt, black pants, and white sneakers. To top off the look, I added a pair of black sunglasses. However, you can also add a watch or a bracelet to the look. The white and black color scheme gives it a clean look. The styling of the bomber jacket in this outfit combines the preppy and hipster style for males.

Like I mentioned before, the key in styling a bomber jacket is “less is more.” Go with this mindset, and you could be looking so stylish everyone will want to know your name. For the female outfit, I went for a more street style look. I paired my own ripped jeans with a basic white T-shirt and white sneakers to go with the mint bomber. I also added simple jewelry to prevent overpowering the whole look. You can choose not to wear any jewelry, because the jacket does most of the work anyway!

Bomber jackets are both stylish and versatile, and come in multiple colors. Furthermore, there are multiple styles, sizes, and materials. For those of you looking for a casual and trendy jacket to wear, a bomber is the perfect option for you!

STYLE GURU STYLE: Effortless Spring Style

Coming from a large university in the Midwest, I can understand firsthand that the spring weather changes daily. While winter was a time of thick winter jackets and heavy rubber-soled boots, spring style can be much simpler and lighter. For spring, let your style show through simple, yet statement infused elements.

One of my top recommendations for conquering the spring weather is to have a staple jacket on hand. I’m speaking about a jacket you can grab to walk to class, grab a coffee, or even to study in the library. A neat, clean-cut jean jacket will get the job done. A jean jacket can be paired well with black or blue jeans, and is perfect for that spring look. Feel free to dress the jean jacket up or down, depending on your desired location.

Another great piece for spring is a comfy pair of walking shoes. A popular brand of sneakers on the UW-Madison campus are the Adidas Superstar shoes. These shoes are not only stylish, but incredibly comfy. Spring is the perfect season for taking extra walks around campus or going the scenic way to class, and with these shoes, all things are possible. They pair nicely with ankle jeans or a skirt, if the weather cooperates.

Staying casual and comfy in college is easy with a simple gold statement necklace. Whether it has your personalized coordinates, an outline of your state, or no meaning at all, a gold chain will go with pretty much anything. The neat idea about a personalized state gold necklace is the fact that you can have a piece of your home with your wherever you go. Attending a college in a different state is difficult, but by wearing my personalized necklace, I feel a sense of home. This necklace also spices up a simple outfit. Pairing black and gold is always beautiful, and this necklace is the perfect accessory for the comfy college girl style.

Spring is a beautiful season for both weather and fashion. Remember to grab your jacket, comfy walking shoes, and enjoy the outdoors. Take the time to explore someplace new on campus. Who knows, maybe someone will comment on your great college style.
