You Need These 4 Products in Your Makeup Bag

Okay, I’ll say it: I’m addicted to buying makeup. Makeup is my absolute vice in life. I am constantly watching YouTube videos or trying to find out other women’s favorite beauty products. If you so much as mention a product to me, I will most likely run out and buy it within the next few days. Because I love hearing what other beauty addicts’ favorite products are, I thought it was only fair to share some of my favorites.

Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation

MAC Cosmetics has become my go-to brand just recently. Their Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 has quickly become my top foundation. With a medium to full-coverage, it isn’t too heavy, and blends in easily. I use Morphe brushes, and their M439 is my favorite foundation brush.

Butter Bronzer

Physician’s Formula makes the best bronzer I’ve ever found. Butter Bronzer is easily my ride-or-die, so to speak. It is the most buttery bronzer that complements any skin tone. It is completely matte and is very buildable. Another plus? It smells amazing, and is very affordable!

Modern Renaissance

Anastasia Beverly Hills stepped up their game by releasing this amazing eyeshadow palette. I use this palette every day. There are colors in here that everyone will love. With little fallout, these shadows are a necessity in every girl’s makeup bag. I love how creamy and blendable these eyeshadows are!

Kylie Lip Kits

Whether or not you love the Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner broke through in the makeup industry with some amazing liquid lipsticks. I was hesitant at first to buy anything but ended up jumping on the bandwagon after I heard others raving about them. My favorite shades are “Kristen,” “High Maintenance,” and “Candy K.” “Kristen” would be considered red, but has a warm undertone, and doesn’t jump out at you like normal red lipstick usually does. It matches well with bronze looks. “High Maintenance” is a brighter pink. With a cooler undertone, it makes you look tanner than you are. “Candy K” is the most versatile shade. It is a neutral pink that looks great on everyone.

Hopefully you’ll love these products as much as I do! What are your ride-or-die beauty products? I love any excuse to buy new makeup. Comment below!

Summer Beauty Must-Haves to Save You From the Heat

Summer is a season filled with beach days, high-waisted shorts, and colorful sunglasses. Clearly, a lot to look forward to… but one thing I definitely don’t dream of is the scorching summer heat.

On the bright side, with just a couple of products, you can beat the heat and look your absolute best this summer season!

Here is a list of your must-have summer products to survive these next couple of months.

1—A good waterproof mascara. A waterproof mascara is essential to survive the summer heat. It’s perfect for beach or pool days when you don’t want to put on too much makeup but want to look put together. It is also great for those early workouts when you want to look less like a zombie and more like a human at the gym.

2—A tinted BB cream with SPF. During summer we want to look dewy, highlighted, and natural. A BB cream will do this job just right. It is also extremely important to keep your skin protected from the sun, so a BB cream that has anywhere from SPF 30 to SPF 50 is perfect for keeping your skin young for as long as possible!

3—Natural Colored Blush. To keep the natural theme going, we want a blush that will make us look like the sun kissed our cheeks. During summer, or ever for that matter, we don’t want to look like a clown. For this reason, a light pink/nude blush will do the trick to make us look our summer best!

4—A Day-to-Night Eye Shadow Palette. You never know what plans can come up during the summertime. To avoid any beauty mishaps, keeping an eye shadow palette that can transform your look from daytime to nighttime is key. The perfect palette would include matte and shimmery light and dark colors, as well as, a bone shade and a black shade!

A Simple, Versatile Makeup Look for Basically Any Occasion

Hello, and welcome to my first article as a brand new Fashionista! My name is Elena Kallergis, and this is my first semester with CollegeFashionista. I’m so excited to begin my journey as a Style Guru and to learn, grow, and experiment with fashion alongside my other guru gals. I figured because this is my first article, why not go back to the basics? I decided to do a versatile, neutral makeup look that’s not too over-the-top and can work for basically any occasion.

1—Face

For my face, I first used my Photo Finish Primer by Smashbox and then applied Make Up For Ever’s Matte Velvet  Foundation. I contoured using my E.L.F. Contour Palette, and highlighted my cheekbones and nose bridge with an E.L.F. highlighter in the shade Moonlight Pearls. I finished off my face by applying So Susan’s Blush & Glow in Rose Rust. I consider this a relatively neutral base that can you can either build up for a more dramatic effect or wear on its own. Overall, I like my beauty and fashion choices to be versatile and wearable, which is probably why I snagged this cool yet classy color-blocked denim skirt and paired it with a gray short-sleeve shirt.

2—Eyes

For my eyes, I used the Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette from Too Faced and swept the color Milk Chocolate over my lids as a base. Next, I applied the shimmer shade Haute Chocolate over my outer corners. Using a small angled brush, I rimmed my water line with the metallic gold color Crème Brûlée. With my Line Stiletto Eyeliner by Maybelline, I created a thin winged stroke on top of my eyes. For this look, I decided to leave my eyeliner rather simple, as it provides build-able coverage. Finally, I layered two coats of Covergirl’s LashBlast Fusion Mascara. To draw attention to my eyes, I usually like to utilize statement jewelry such as this eye-catching ear cuff.

3—Lips

I’m not too fussy with my lips, so I started by moisturizing them with Eos Lip Balm. I then applied Make Up For Ever’s Artist Rouge Creme Lipstick in C211 with a lip brush for a more precise application. If I’m feeling fancy, I would swipe on a layer of lip gloss for some extra shine.

The Busy Girls’ Guide to Looking Effortless

We can all agree that looking effortless isn’t just trendy—it’s beautiful; whether you’re at work, on the beach, or on a road trip with your girls. Unfortunately, an effortless look does take a little bit of time and effort. Here are the five steps I do everyday to achieve a natural, care-free look!

1—Skincare

My mornings are rushed and I don’t have the patience for tedious skincare, so I like to do all of my deep cleansing and treatments at night to keep my mornings a little simpler. I start every morning by double cleansing my face with a gentle cleanser to get rid of any oil or dirt that accumulated overnight. Follow with a quick spritz of a toning mist and a dime-sized amount of moisturizer and sunscreen.

2—Complexion

If you’re a little uncomfortable rocking a foundation-free face, a tinted moisturizer or BB cream always go a long way! I love the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream for days when concealer just isn’t enough. If not, skip straight to the concealer; I put mine under my eyes, on my eyelids, and on any imperfections that have popped up.

Tip: Use the warmth of your fingers to seamlessly blend everything into your skin, followed by a beauty blender to get rid of any streaks that may be lingering.

3—Definition

I like to stay away from contouring during the day, mostly because I don’t have the energy. However, I do find that a little bronzer goes a long way. Apply in the shape of a three on the perimeter of your face to give yourself a little more definition and warmth. Extra points if you sweep a little bit of highlighter on your cheekbones!

4—Brows

It’s time to face it: your eyebrows play a huge part in every look you do, even the effortless ones. We aren’t all born with beautiful, bushy brows, so this is when I fill mine in. I like to use a brow powder and an angled brush because it gives a softer, slightly more natural look. Slightly define your natural brows, adding shape where you wish to, and set them in place with a sweep of brow gel.

5—Eyes

Remember that bronzer we used two steps ago? Sweep a little bit of that into your crease and blend to give your eyes a little something extra. Finish off with two to three coats of your favorite mascara and you’re good to go!

Comfortable Summer Glow

Although some people prefer to go makeup-free during the summer, there’s nothing wrong with experimenting with some new makeup looks. However, it’s a lot easier when you’re using high-quality products that also feel amazing on your skin. The main reason why a lot of people like to go makeup-free during the summer is because of the heat. These lightweight products I’ve used are my go-to essentials when I want to do myself up a bit for the summer but still feel cool and comfortable.

To start off, the foundation I’m wearing is Too Faced’s “Born This Way” Foundation ($39) from Sephora. It may seem a bit pricey, but this is my go-to foundation for the summer. It’s light but still gives a good amount of coverage, so a little goes a long way. All of their shades also have yellow undertones, which brightens your skin for that youthful summer glow without washing you out.

If you’re like me and like to experiment with some new eyeshadow looks this summer, I’d suggest checking out Lorac’s Unzipped: Gold Palette ($42). All of the colors on my eyes are from this palette because I love the mix of mattes and shimmers. Lorac always provides such pigmented and high-quality colors—perfect if you want a more dramatic look like I did with the cut-crease.

Last but not least, you can’t forget about the glow, girl! No matter what the season, Becca Cosmetics highlighter collection is my first choice when it comes to highlighting. In this photo, I’m using Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter ($38) in the shade “Rose Gold” to match some of my reddish eyeshadow tones. My favorite thing about this highlighter is that a little goes a long way. Because it’s a pressed powder, it comes in handy when you want that dramatic glow but don’t want to cake your face with a liquid or cream highlight.

Now throw on some mascara, contour those cheeks, and don’t forget about the brows! You’ve got yourself a stunning glow for any summer occasion, whether it’s an outdoor barbecue or a night out with the girls. If you are going out for a special occasion, you can never go wrong with a pair of gold sunnies or bangles to help pull that glow all together.

Next time you find yourself with some free time on a nice summer day (or night), play around with some new looks like mine and see how you like them! Show me how they turned out, and be sure to tag @CFashionista on social media.

Shrink Your Makeup Bag For This Summer Glow

In the world of extra, it’s hard to find a balance between having all of the products necessary to create a ‘natural’ makeup look and going broke. The steps to achieving a natural summer glow can get crazy. It should only take four products to be ready for your day… that’s it. Learning how to maximize each product makes all the difference difference.

  1. BB Cream

We all know tossing our foundation in the summer months for a BB Cream alternative is a must. It’s lighter on the skin, easier to apply, and full of benefits. Leave your moisturizer and primer at home with a regular BB Cream. For more oily skin, go for a matte version that will allow you to skip powder as well. Applying the cream only where you have problem areas and leaving rosy cheeks bare eliminates the need for a blush.

  1.  Bronzer

For all the girls that can’t go a day without contour, this is for you. Using a big, fluffy brush, lightly emphasize your facial features by applying bronzer under your cheekbones, on the temples of your forehead, and underneath your jaw (making sure to blend down your neck). Not only will this give you a more ‘chiseled’ facial structure, it’ll make you look tanner, too. Adding a little bit to the crease of your eye using your ring finger eliminates the need for darker eye shadows and creates a natural looking effect.

  1. Highlight

Ah, yes, the most important step of every single makeup look. Here’s where the glow comes in. Apply a shimmery highlighter (no chunky glitter, please!) to the high points of your cheekbones, the tip of your nose, and your cupids bow. Put a little extra in the inner corner of your eyes to act like a lighter eye shadow.

  1. Mascara

Honestly, mascara is optional. If you’re going to the beach or the pool, I would say skip it. Curl your lashes as close to the base as you can, then apply your mascara. Start at the root and move your hand back and forth, wiggling your wand up your lashes until you get to the tip. Let them dry, curl again, and add more mascara. Do this until you’re satisfied with how your lashes look. When applying mascara to your bottom lashes, press the wand up against your bottom lashline (before wiggling down) to act like an eyeliner.

Cutting down on the amount of products in your makeup bag makes beach trips—or any trip—less stressful.

BEAUTY BAR: Classy Meets Sassy

Strut your stuff! As the final week of school comes to an end and finals are about to be put in the past, students are planning their summer adventures. Some include spontaneous vacations, trips across the country, or even simply going to the lake. I came across this classy Fashionista with an ensemble that goes perfectly together from head to toe.

Her outfit is a cute classy meets sassy take on summer days to come. She is wearing a spaghetti strapped, cotton, purple cami tucked into a black and white stripe pencil skirt. She paired these pieces with a light, black bomber jacket with pockets to carry all needed necessities, and some ankle heel boots with just enough heel to make the outfit look sexy. The accessories are an oversize watch, accented with a black band and gold rim, a gold pearl choker, a long gold chain necklace, and a pair of pearl earrings to tie it all together.

The final touch on the ensemble is the hair and makeup. Her deep brown, shoulder-length hair is loosely curled with volume tousled through. Her makeup is perfectly on point with both her hair and outfit. She has a matte foundation with light pink checks, dark eyebrows, and a deep brownish red lip color. Her eyes have a light purple shadow on the outer corner blended with a white shadow on the inner corner to create the look of wider eyes. A final touch is the jet black winged eyeliner to give that overall look of a sexy, classy ensemble.

BEAUTY BAR: Be Bold in Bronze

Have you ever walked past someone and wished you could do your make up like them? Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you could do more than slapping on a bit of foundation and mascara? Well, it’s time to stop wishing and take action. If you take some tips from this gorgeous Fashionista, you’ll be sure to catch the eye of everyone as you walk down the street like it’s your runway.

Whether it’s for an everyday look, a hot date, or a night out with the girls, you can never go wrong with a beautiful bronzed look. A bronze smokey eye suits any skin tone and eye color, lifting the skin to may you glow and shimmer… it’s an all rounder for anyone and everyone.

To start off, it is essential that you prime your skin. The Hourglass primer is one that minimizes pores, redness and controls oils, so if you’re one to have oily skin, this is the primer is the one for you. It will make you glow, especially if you use a dewy foundation, this can be a lifesaver when you want your foundation to last all day and night. If you enjoy an illuminated look that moisturizes and nourishes the skin, then the Ellis Faas foundation is your go to. With SPF in it for ultimate protection in the sun to avoid freckles and wrinkles while also smoothing your skin it just takes a small pump and a thin layer on top of your primer.

It is all about what products you use, not necessarily how good you are at applying them. The Stila Soul Palette has all the bronze, brown and neutral tones you need. Pairing this with the Nars eyeshadow duo will brighten up the eye, especially if you are one with blue or green eyes, like this Fashionista, this allows for a gold bronze smokey eye to really stand out. To make it even bolder, finish your bronze eye with the volumizing mascara from By Terry, no more fake lashes or extensions ladies! It’s time to let your own lashes grow. Using three coats of this long-lasting waterproof mascara will give you just the same volume length and curl you love from fake lashes… it even activates lash growth! Pairing this natural bronzed look with a white blazer really brings out her eyes even more. Remember it is not only the make up look you go for but how you pair it with accessories and your outfit that will make it even more bold.

This Fashionista’s savior is her finishing powder from Hourglass. After applying the Nars Bronzer on the cheek bones, to complete her look and be sure it will stay looking fresh and glowing, she uses a finishing powder to set the foundation.  This maintains the radiance and recreates the amazing flattering light sources on your face.

Now you know how to make your face glow by using the right products, it’s time to put it to the test. You don’t need to go to make up school or watch a million tutorials to get that perfect bronzed application. Just be sure you have the right products for your skin type and skin tone and if you take on board these tips, you’ll be sure to have your make up on fleek everyday!

BEAUTY BAR: Lip Statement

It’s the time of year when we bring out all our flirty and fun colors! This can be done with tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, and even your make up… that’s right, make up can be a total game changer when it comes to looking chic this season. There’s so much to choose from now a days when it comes to your beauty products. Even a simple bright shade of lipstick and winged eyeliner can make your outfit.

Make up can be used to make a statement within your everyday look. It adds that special wow factor and draws positive attention to you even if your outfit may not be styled to the max. Lipstick specifically can make any look that much better, just as this Fashionista shows us here. She gives off a relaxed, yet totally trendy and chic vibe. Her outfit is subtle and comfortable, but by adding her bright lipstick, she pulls this look together and makes her very own statement!

This Fashionista made her look complete by sticking with a natural look but adding a bright pop of color on her lips! To keep it looking natural she used Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation, Kat Von D eyeliner, Benefit high beam highlighter, and finally her lip color Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick mixed with Lancôme’s Juicy Shaker Pigment infused Bi-Phased.

If you’re feeling like your look might be missing that special something, try a fresh new lip color to brighten up your style while looking ultimately fashionable in such a simple way! I recommend heading to your nearest beauty supplier and stocking up on some must have spring/summer lip colors… I promise you won’t regret it!

BEAUTY BAR: Spring Gleam

This is it! I can’t believe that the semester is already coming to an end and so is my time as a Style Guru. I’ve had such a great time showing my fashion inspiration, but for my very last article I thought it was time to switch it up and feature some beauty inspiration!

Highlighters seem to be taking the beauty world by storm, and getting those cheekbones to glow has become one of the most crucial things to do when it comes to achieving any make-up look. For this Fashionista, it was the focal point for her look! As we move into the warmer months, fresh, dewy skin is taking over the want for a matte finish that is more common in the winter. With minimal foundation, a bronze glow, and a gleaming highlight, this Fashionista is providing the perfect fresh-face complexion. When asked exactly what products she used, she said Glossier’s Haloscope cream highlight with Becca’s Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector—double the highlight, double the glow. She adds to her natural make-up look with a defined brow and light copper eyeshadow. Overall, this combination of products is wonderful for everyday wear throughout the spring and summer.

Of course, I had to mention real quick how awesome her outfit was! To add to her beauty look, this Fashionista sported some super trendy two-toned denim jeans, a black tank top, and white Adidas sneakers. It’s simplicity, but stylishness, brings her whole ensemble together.

It’s been great Fashionistas/os, thanks for a RAD semester!
