Let’s hear it for the BOYS…

Penn State University shined some light on men’s fashion at their Valley magazine event. The look below of a black blazer and miss matched pants is a great way to stand out from the typical full black suit most Fashionistos wear. With the holidays arriving and graduation for some of you college Fashionistos, consider adding a new suit to your wish list of presents!

FASHION NEWS: The Industry Goes Green

It hasn’t been until fairly recently that many Fashionistas realized the green fashion movement is more than just organic tees. The same goes for environmentalists, as fashion had been at the bottom of their priority list until recently. But as more studies are released indicating the environmental ramifications of clothing production (the cotton industry releases roughly 16 percent of global pesticides), designers and environmentalists are teaming up. Portland Fashion Week showcased sustainable green designers such as Mountains of the Moon and Jonano. Even Paris Fashion Week hosted an Ethical Fashion show, full of beautiful clothes from a wide range of designs. My favorite new green find is the website Ecouterre. It is full of beautiful and unique eco-friendly apparel, shoes, beauty and accessories for men and women. The site is also a great resource to read about eco-fashion innovations and news. They have great articles on new sustainable fabrics and fashion technology- who knew people were making solar powered jackets?! Brilliant.

TREND: Where the Wild Things Are

With the opening of Where the Wild Things Are a few weeks ago also came an influx of fashion inspired by the wild ones. Urban Outfitters has especially taken up the movie as a trend, selling everything from the original book to Wild Thing slippers. They have clothes for men, women, and children, including t-shirts, hoodies, and dresses inspired by the crazy monsters. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe even created a new jewelry line based on the Wild Things Movie.

In a movie that makes us reminese our childhood days, these T-shirts and hoodies can take us back to that simpler, more innocent time. Try this trend with a printed shirt from Urban or a Max-inspired hoodie from the Warner Brothers store. I love wearing my Wild Things t-shirt on days when I just need a little pick-me-up. Everyone that sees it appreciates it too!

Let’s hear it for the BOYS…

Not all boys like the glitz and glam of the fashion world, actually most males don’t. It’s interesting how boyfriends/brothers will partake in Fashionistas shopping trips watching us try on our designer shoes and gawk at the latest handbags, but they refuse to try on a single thing for themselves. Spending $195 on a shirt is outrageous for a majority of College Fashionistos and honestly the word “Burberry” might not even ring a bell to some. Our Fashionisto below took the plunge and invested in his style, went shopping for himself and showed class with his traditional Burberry shirt. I even like how the white lining of his loafers match the detailing of his top. Nice work.

Hint: Yes, this shirt is pricey but I can promise it won’t go out of style. Even after the days of college pass by, this piece will not disappear. Place a suit jacket over a Burberry shirt for a job interview and your set!

FASHION NEWS: Vanity Fair’s 2009 International Best-Dressed List

Now that Vanity Fair’s best-dressed list has come out, we all know who to turn to when looking for new trends and fashion ideas. Both of the Obamas have made the list this time, as so many people are watching them as Barack Obama enters his first year as the President. It’s no surprise that Michelle Obama is at the top of the list; she has been such a trendsetter matching high end fashion with budget friendly items from JCrew and H&M. Whenever she steps out for an event, all eyes turn towards her to see what new thing she’s wearing. Another first-lady that made the list is Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. Her outfits are always timeless classics. Her favorite designer is Dior and she always looks polished in his looks.

One surprise this year is that Angelina Jolie didn’t make the list, despite her partner Brad Pitt making it in the category of best-dressed males. Pitt has stepped outside of the box with his fashion choices and likes to accesorize with scarves and hats, which most men are afraid of. He pulls it off really well, and has a clean, cool style. Other celebrities that have made the list for the first time include Penelope Cruz and Anne Hathaway.

You can check out the full list at Vanity Fair.

FASHIONISTO OF THE WEEK

It’s all in the execution and attention to detail that makes this outfit worthy of being crowned a true Fashionisto. His suave demeanor parallels nicely with his fashion forward vintage Shades of Greige shirt and Nudie cuffed jeans. Taking advantage of all pieces in his collection, this Fashionisto wore his fall classic boots in the summer, BRAVO! Whether this Fashionisto is off to lounge with some of his crew or on his way to grab a drink with his lady, he is dressed to kill.

Hint: This look is worth a million bucks, but definitely doesn’t cost it. Reach out to your local vintage boutiques and bargain for a one-of-a-kind piece such as his dress top. If you’re near the West Coast, he recommends Wasteland.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Sweatin’ Things Up In Style

It is obvious that being fashionable does not have to be uncomfortable with current street styles that every girl loves, like yoga pants. Now with fashion powerhouse brands such as adidas, Stella McCartney and Topshop debuting their recent collaborations, it’s obvious that fashion sweats are at a all-time high right now. Every girl loves a yoga pant and now it can look sleek and chic. Dressing for an occasion can now be comfortable and easy with this sporty look.

If you are similar to me, then you are a student juggling multiple classes, internships and probably a part-time job while trying to maintaining an appropriate office style. This means you are probably on the go 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can see celebrities, such as Cara Delevingne to Rihanna, taking these looks from this the runways and bringing them onto the sidewalks. When it comes to fashion and music, they always seem to influence each other in different ways, such as the hip-hop genre. This sporty and comfortable, but sleek style can easily be transitioned into menswear. I spotted this Fashionisto the other day when he was on the way form his job to his internship. His look is effortless and easy while being stylish and work appropriate at the same time.

How To: This look is a very chic and easy to recreate and make your own. I would start off by picking out a really great slim banded cuffed sweats from vince and throw in a pair of Nike Roshe Run sneakers. When it comes to your undershirt, keep it simple with this great basic from Topman and layer it with this quality leather jacket from AllSaints. The Jasper sunglasses from Warby Parker paired with the bleecker leather shopper from Coach that is a look that will leave people staring.
