You Need to Add These 3 Runway Trends to Your Fall Wardrobe

We all know that ready-to-wear can sometimes be far from actually ready to wear, but we can still find plenty of inspiration in the themes we see across several shows. Sometimes, these themes can be a little more out there than others. For example. a full metallic look is definitely not for day and pantsuits to class are a risk. Nevertheless, these outrageous trends can be incorporated into your fall wardrobe with just a few simple tricks.

1—Sci-fi style. Now you don’t want to look like you stepped out of the latest Star Wars movie, but metallics can add some extra shine to your fall style. When you wear that outfit full of maroons, blacks, and olive greens, try to add in one metallic piece. Boots are always an easy option but go outside your comfort zone this season with a metallic top. Just layer it under a chambray shirt and oversize cardigan for a more relaxed daytime look.

2—Out there outerwear. For those of us in colder climates, we know that warm—and fashionable—outerwear is a necessity. It’s normal to want to stick to black, gray, and tan for your outfit toppers, but it’s all about taking fashion risks this season. Try a pastel coat instead of a basic one. Just be sure to keep your bottom half neutral so the look isn’t too overwhelming for that walk to class.

3—Cool corduroy. Don’t play it safe in a corduroy mini this fall. Instead, play up the ’70s influence with a pair of flared pants and an off-the-shoulder blouse. Finish off the look with some platforms. Be sure to keep everything neutral so your look is modern instead of dated.

FASHION FROM ABROAD: A Touch of Texture

While abroad during the Easter holiday, I came across this Fashionista. Her outfit immediately caught my eye for its fabulous mixing of trends and monochromatic color scheme. For this Fashionista, shades of gray were the way to go. She perfectly added metallic pieces to play up and complement her outfit’s tone.

Velvet has been a coveted trend in recent seasons as have skirts in general. Velvet is an ideal material to add a bit of texture to any outfit. It looks great whether the skirt be long or short, or even as an accessory like a choker. This Fashionista wore a flowing velvet skater skirt that was soft to the touch and gave off the prettiest shimmering effect.

She continued the texturized feel with a fur tank top. Fur is also one of those trending elements that have been making their way into all sorts of pieces. In this case, her fur tank top will keep her cooler during the warmer months that are thankfully approaching. My personal favorite fur clothing item is actually an accessory. I have been obsessed with slides, but even more so with fur slides. I’ve been eyeing a few pairs and I cannot wait to get my hands on them! I love the playful vibe that fur slides give off, but I’m even more excited for the comfort that comes along with it.

This Fashionista topped off her outfit with a silver choker, continuing the metallic pattern and tying the whole look together. I think it’s safe to say that chokers are a trend that are here to stay. I’m totally okay with that because chokers serve dual purposes in my wardrobe. They can supplement an already killer outfit with a touch of jewels or act as a statement piece with bold coloring or fringed texture. I’ve been loving elaborate chokers with beads, feathers, and texture of any sort this season. They have a tendency of instantly making every outfit cooler.

With summer approaching, I dare you Fashionstas and Fashionistos to experiment with some rad, trendy, texturized pieces and make them the statements of this season’s fashion!

Here Are The 7 Coolest Looks From Coachella To Aid Your FOMO

What happens at ‘Chella, stays at ‘Chella (and all over Instagram stories). But one thing that lives on are the street styles we instantly adopt into our go-to summer wardrobes year after year.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is the unofficial start to summer festival season, bringing you all the itty bitty jean shorts, crochet, and fringe your heart can handle. This year, mesh bodysuits, belts, braids, and bralettes stole the show as tastemakers everywhere were photographed rocking their unique twists on boho chic fashion in Indio, California.

F.O.M.O. is at an all time high as every social media feed fills with flash tats, glitter, and jewels, but if you weren’t there, no worries. We stalked every must-see festival fashion moment that let loose in the desert this past weekend.

Let’s take time to rewind and peep a few of the best-dressed cool girls that brought their A-game this year, because as Ri Ri says, “I can’t go home yet, cuz enough people ain’t seen my outfit.”

Beware: severe outfit envy beyond this point.

These Are The 3 Shoe Styles Southern College Students Will Be Wearing This Spring

Shoes really are a girl’s best friend. They support you, make you look good, and complete your whole outfit. For the southern gal, the temperature is consistently rising each day from hot to scary. There’s literally no such thing as four seasons in the south. Despite the insane weather, southern girls know how to take on the heat in a very stylish way, down to their footwear.

Here are the three styles that fashionable southern college students will definitely be wearing this spring and summer!

Embroidered Details

Embroidery has been big this season so far and southern college students are adding embroidered shoes right into their closets. The bright colors and designs are similar to that of Colcha embroidery, a embroidery technique developed during the Spanish colonial period in New Mexico. These simple details add fun and interest to an everyday outfit.

HALLE Embroidered Sandals – Topshop

Straps everywhere!

The single strap heel has practically became a closet essential and with the temperature rising it is the perfect time to show off your new pedicure with some cute strappy heels. This season southern girls are having a little more fun with their heeled sandals. Rather than the traditional single strap heel they’re going for different materials like the ribbon heel from Topshop.

Metallics

This season southern girls are going to be adding a little more interest to their outfits with these pops of metallic. In warmer areas layering is not even an idea, fashionistas have to go more simple in their looks with less layers. Accessorizing becomes more important and with statement shoes like these they’re taking basic outfits from simple to chic in seconds.

WHAT TO WEAR: Perfecting the PNM Outfit

Sorority recruitment, two words that bring stress to any girl interested in Greek life. One of the longest standing conundrums: what to wear, remains on everyone’s mind. At most schools, recruitment takes place in the fall semester, which means it’s the perfect time for shorts, sandals, and sundresses. But if your sorority recruitment happens during the early spring semester, shorts and skirts are not ideal.

Miami University, along with a handful of other colleges, is one that participates in spring recruitment. The first round of recruitment is the easiest to style, because the PNMs (Potential New Members) are given a T-shirt and the biggest decision is which pants to wear. However, the next round is different because this time the PNMs style their entire outfit. Miami University recently had their second day of recruitment- a philanthropy round-where the girls were asked to wear a casual, yet chic, outfit. The model I photographed embraces this fashion duo perfectly.

This outfit consists of a light gray long-sleeve shirt, a pair of two-toned jeans, a navy cardigan, metallic booties, and is finished with simple gold jewelry. The cardigan layered on top of the gray long-sleeve is not only cute, but it also helps with staying warm, which is crucial in Ohio. The tassels at the end of the cardigan give an additional fun and flirty look to the outfit. The two-toned jeans add a subtly unique difference and are also more eye-catching than a monotone pair. A personal favorite are the metallic booties because they complement the gold necklace perfectly and look stunning.

Not many girls take it into consideration during recruitment, but comfort definitely does matter. When you’re running from location to location for each sorority, you’ll want something warm and relaxed but fabulous as well. This outfit embraces these characteristics and does not sacrifice fashion for comfort.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: All That Glitters is Surely Gold

I spotted this Fashionista from a mile away and I knew I had to write this article about her. Her gold metallic skirt completely caught my attention like a beacon of golden light. I loved the way she spiced up a simple all black outfit with splashes of gold and metallics; a trend that has been very popular over the Christmas season. But who says that metallics are just a passing fad that you pull out during party season? If you love it, wear it no matter the season! Which is exactly just what this Fashionista has done and she’s killing it! Ladies and gentlemen, in the words of Rihanna, “Shine bright like a diamond.”

This look features one of my favorite styling techniques, layering, which she executes effortlessly having layered her black jumper over a lace top and allowing the lace collar to be seen.

She completes the outfit with some dainty silver rings, a silver coiled bracelet, and a long hanging rose gold necklace. The intricate detail in the hint of lace that we see peeking out from her jumper collar adds to the look. It almost gives the impression of a lace choker. For a comfortable and practical daytime look she has paired the outfit with a very on-trend puffer jacket, some classic all black Adidas Stan Smiths, and a cute Goodhood branded tote bag.

The beauty of this look is in its simplicity; with one key item, this Fashionista has added some metallic flair to her outfit. This look is not too much or over the top, it’s just enough for it to catch your eye. It strikes a nice medium between being bold and daring and playing it safe. You too could achieve a similar result by wearing a simple outfit with a key item that gives a pop of color—think bright cobalt blues, neons, metallics, etc. Go on—be creative, experiment, and create your own inspired look that suits you!

To transition to an evening look remove the coat, jumper, tights, and trainers, and replace with a light jacket, evening bag, and some heels—then you’re ready to hit the town with your girls. Who says winter has to be a dull affair and you can’t wear metallics outside of the party season? Take your cue from this Fashionista and be bold.

How To Revitalize Last Year’s Look For A New Season

2016 was a chaotic year with some fashion trends (and general events) we’d rather not talk about. But that doesn’t mean we should go into this new year with a completely new slate! There are a few things we just couldn’t let go of—and neither should you.

It’s only right that with the new year, we give some of our favorite pieces of clothing a second chance in 2017. Here’s how to revitalize last year’s trends for a new season!

A Fresh Spin On Monochromatic: Monochromatic outfits were huge last year mainly using black and earth tones like green and tan. This season the monochromatic trend is still around but getting a fresh upgrade by using brighter and bolder shades of color. This can be a hard trend to pull off because every color has so many different shades. (Think about the frustration of when two blacks don’t match.) When going for the monochromatic look play with textures. Like Bree’s look here she topped her outfit off with a plum colored faux-fur vest that may be a shade off from her other pieces but because it has a texture to it, it helps for the outfit to flow together nicely.

The Classic Trench Coat: Who didn’t love the duster coat for last season? As we head into Spring doesn’t mean we have to wave goodbye to our beloved long coat. Rather switch it out for a trench coat made of a light fabric. Carsen keeps her look minimalistic and chic with her mock turtleneck, high waisted jeans and black boots topped with an olive green trench coat. Her look is perfect for dressing to fit the trend of the season while still keeping warm in places that are still freezing this time of the year.

Athleisure to Athluxury: Athleisure was a huge trend last season and I don’t see the trend dying anytime soon. However, this season a new trend that’s popped up is Athluxury. This is taking your athletic or street wear and dressing it up a bit. The bomber jacket was everywhere last season and is a perfect piece to dress up for a simple Athluxury look. Pair the jacket with your favorite bodycon dress or skirt and a killer pair of shoe. Then accessorize like Alexis did here with her crystal choker. It adds the perfect little touch of glamor!

Make a Statement: Lacing up everything was such a big trend. Lace up shirts and shoes were in every store! Amy takes last season’s lace up trend and combines it with a new trend this season. During Fashion Week last season tons of designers filled their runways with graphic t-shirts with a statement on it. This season let your shirt do all the talking. Amy styles her outfit for more of a warmer area with shorts and a graphic T-shirt. This look would also look great with a pencil skirt or ankle booties and boyfriend jeans.

Flare Bottoms: There was a point when no one could stand the sight of anything flare now their back and we love them like it was the first time we ever saw them. Flare denim came back into style last year and they are carrying themselves into a new season. To change of the look pair them with a statement piece. Jordan pairs them with a metallic motor jacket which itself is perfect for this season because we will be seeing a lot of pastels this season. She kept her look simple with a black crop top and a choker to pull everything together.

STYLE GURU BIO: Cammie Bradshaw

Hey everyone, I’m Cammie Bradshaw! My favorite things in life are fashion, social justice, the sky, and love.

Currently I attend Columbia College in Chicago, previously I went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. My ultimate goal is to move to New York City and start my own sustainable and philanthropic fashion line. This goal has been blossoming since I was five years old. I even have a note in my wallet written when I was nine years old that says “When I grow up, I want to be a fashion designer.” I’ve always been a dreamer, but as I age, I get closer to making my dreams come true. There is so much I want to do with my life, and I’m a firm believer that as long as you are persistent and don’t let set backs stop you, you can accomplish anything.

My favorite designers are Marchesa, Elie Saab, Christian Siriano, and Zac Posen. In my eyes, they make the most beautiful gowns and exemplify incredible craftsmanship. When I first watched Elie Saab’s haute couture spring/summer 2015 fashion show, I even cried because of how beautiful the gowns were. Yes, I’m that fashion girl. The first thing I’m going to do when I buy a serious designer gown is probably wear it to the grocery store, just because I can. Until I can afford that luxury, my favorite brand right now is Zara, where I found my metallic puffer coat. My style is all over the place. Carrie Bradshaw, Betty Suarez from Ugly Betty, and Bella Hadid are my main style inspirations. I like mixing classic pieces like black jeans and turtleneck with metallic shoes.

This is my first time interning with CollegeFashionista, so I’m excited for what is to come. Here’s to a RAD semester!

Check Out These Creative Ways To Wear Your NYE Pieces Well Into The New Year

You spent an embarrassing amount of time researching, debating, buying and returning to put together the perfect look for your holiday get togethers. And while that sequin mini slayed at your NYE party, it is a shame to think all that prep work was wasted on a few hours of fashion glory.

Just because the holiday season has come and gone, doesn’t mean you need to say “so long” to those festive pieces. Give new life to your holiday looks this new year by thinking creatively!

Check out how to restyle your holiday wardrobe for the new season!

January Mood Board—Infinity

January is always defined by the start of the new year. How many times have you heard the expression “new year, new you.” We here at CollegeFashionista aren’t here to tell you to change because—guess what—the “old you” is pretty darn #RAD.

0a85d9693d355695d1631b01ae6b7a1f

Instead, look at this as a chance to dream. A new year marks the beginning of your 2017 story. January is just the start of your journey into the great (and exciting) unknown. Instead of making resolutions, be limitless in your pursuit to make this your best year yet. Embrace the infinite possibilities that stand before you. Be in the moment. Embrace change and challenge. Expect the unexpected. Dream big, then bigger into the infinity of time and opportunity.

We here at CollegeFashionista are embracing this concept of “infinity” as we kick off this new year. All January long we will be bringing you content aimed at celebrating not only this concept of growth and empowerment, but how to set yourself up for a year of limitless opportunities in all areas of your life. So take chances, set those goals and be sure to do so in style, of course!
