FASHION NEWS: RETRO – ACTIVE!

As I was clicking through the many pages on ShopBop.com a bright blue watch caught my eye. As I flipped back to check it out, I realized that this was not just another average watch. This watch was in fact a Baby- G. The second I realized I was looking at this timepiece treasure; I was immediately brought back to my childhood. Baby-G watches were “all the rave” when I was in grade school, and now they are back!

The goal of the Baby – G design team when the brand launched in 1974, was a watch that never breaks. Not only has this goal been reached, it's been improved upon with G-Shock's water resistance, shock resistance, and ultra-long battery life, features that have evolved through 25 years of redesign. Features include: world time, stopwatch, count down timer, calendar, multi – alarm, and light.

Baby – G wristwatches are cute and colorful, yet with a rugged theme. They were clearly designed with the young female user in mind with its trendy aesthetics. Coming in many bright colors, such as yellow, orange, pink, blue and white. The Baby – G watch is ideal for the active girl on the go. The Baby – G can go with you wherever you go. Whether you’re at school, running around your neighborhood, or swimming laps.

Featuring the most accurate time keeping, and a variety of features, the Baby – G is the ideal combination of function and fashion!

TREND: The Princess and the Pea

Now that the weather has gotten cold enough we have to wear layers everywhere and the coat question begins…. You need something that you won’t get sick of, that’s reliable, stylish and warm. I’ll cut to the chase- I’m a huge lover of pea coats. I’m pretty sure it was the first coat my mother made me wear when I got old enough to be dressed stylish, but I must say I have been hooked even throughout all my unfortunate fashion stages. They’re comfortable, warm, and have that preppy, pulled together chic look. It can compliment almost any outfit or, on the other hand if it’s laundry day, no one will know what lies underneath your stylish exterior. This Fashionista looks feminine and composed in her soft grey pea coat complimented with a warm pink scarf. Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style, and if you ever grow tired of your pea coat, accessorize with new buttons!

Hint: Jack Wills on Market Street has basic solids, but J. Crew has styles that last forever.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY: PINK Nation B-Town Bash

Last Thursday, Fashionistas crowded Dunn Meadow at Indiana University to see a live performance by DJ Girl Talk in honor of the Victoria’s Secret PINK Nation B-Town Bash. This event was hosted by model Behati Prinsloo and Whitney Port, with collaboration of WIUX! Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike came out to dance in the rain and show their carefree spirits…Our IU Guru Kelsey, joined in on the fun and found these Fashionistas below wearing just the right thing.

WEEKEND FORECAST: Play up your prep

This weekend is perfect opportunity to embrace your inner prep. Hit the links at the Dunhill golf tournament looking relaxed and pulled together, the ultimate prep motto. Not only will you be honouring the players and the game by looking smartly dressed, you will be complimenting the beautiful landscape whose historic scenery could make even a punk rocker want to throw on an oxford and put on a set of pearls. And you don’t have to dress like Chuck Bass to look pulled together. This Fashionisto looks comfortable and crisp in fitted pants, suspenders, and of course a tweed blazer. Nothing pulls an outfit together like a clean white shirt, and I think this is solid evidence that baseball hats aren’t the only hats the male sex will wear. So hit the Old Course and play up your preppy side, this is where golf was founded after all!

Tweed hunting: While John is rocking a Pink shirt and a Hackett blazer, closer to home Jack Wills on Bell Street is a given for blazers and oxfords and I love anything from J.Crew, and their online store is prep heaven.

TREND: Warmer Weather’s Better

Though we are steadily moving into fall, the weather is not cooperating, and lets be honest, we couldn’t be happier about that. Its only a matter of time until we are up before the sun and making our way up Bascom in a snow storm with furor. But lets not talk about that shall we? Instead, lets focus on the fact that this gorgeous 70 something weather is still gracing us with its presence. This cute Fashionista was definitely embracing the summer like weather this week. I knew the pink suede looked a bit retro. Oh how I love vintage. When I asked her about the piece, she told me it was actually a swimsuit, and indeed from a thrift shop. Love the idea of converting a swimsuit into a leotard type piece. Perfect for those impromptu trips to the docks, which will soon cease, so get out there while you can!

Hint: Looking for that versatile swimsuit? I particularly happen to like this one from American Apparel. Throw on a pair of high-waisted jeans with it and you’ll have the most fashionable leotard of the bunch!

WEEKEND FORECAST: Matching is SO overrated

If you have ever watched the popular TLC show called What Not to Wear, then you have probably heard the phrase “Everything in your outfit doesn’t have to match, it just has to go.” Stacey and Clinton seem to reiterate that fact in every episode. And I agree, matching is SO overrated.

Who ever said that if you wear a pink blouse, you also have to pair it with pink heels and a pink purse? In my opinion, that’s just way too much pink.

Getting dressed is like painting a picture. Artists rarely use just one color in their works. Instead, they use colors that compliment each other. Take note from this Fashionista. Her deep blue and forest green, plaid shirt goes perfectly with her mustard, yellow tote. And the hints of brown and gold from her shoes and necklace seal the deal.

I declare this Fashionista a masterpiece!

WEEKEND FORECAST: Buckle up!

Lately I have been feeling like I don’t own enough clothes. It seems to happen to most girls every now and then. Sure, I have a full closet with everything from skirts and dresses to tops, tanks and cardigans. But I was still feeling unsatisfied.

I guess it’s hard to try and look different every weekend when you’re a poor college student. But there had to be an answer without buying every piece of clothing in College Mall.

My solution? Belts.

By pairing a belt with your outfit, you completely change-up the look. One belt can actually double your wardrobe.

I spotted this Fashionista looking cool and casual with a pink and green, floral belt. The colors really made her teal dress pop.

Try this classic belt from Vanity to pair with any outfit. If you are looking for an edgier touch, rock out one of these belts from Rue 21. And if you’re a girly girl like me, wrap yourself in this studded, floral belt from GOjane.com.

I actually just treated myself to a bronze, silver and black belt from target. And three new belts means I tripled my style.

Now it’s your turn. Buckle up!

WHAT TO WEAR: Concert

When the weather starts getting warm, there are so many things to check off your bucket list. An outdoor concert is definitely one of the top things to do this spring. It is a great way to spend time with friends and family, enjoy the sun and listen to talented musicians. One of the best parts about an outdoor concert is the wardrobe! From Coachella to Firefly festival to summer concerts on the lawn, my favorite thing to do is to check out outfit choices.

This Fashionista caught my eye as she was making her way to see her favorite band. She is wearing an amazing colorful top that I could not look away from. The top is a sheer material with a sort of floral/kaleidoscope design. The mix of black, orange, blue, pink, purple and green works perfectly in a way you wouldn’t think. The more colors the better in this top, and the way it flows in the wind adds to the overall outfit. Paired with this shirt, she is wearing dark denim skinny jeans. The jeans are casual and cute which is great because her shirt has so much going on. Last but not least, her shoes pull the whole ensemble together. Her shoes are lace pastel pink. The pop of color is so unexpected but goes so great with the colors in her shirt. They are loud and fun, perfect for the occasion of a concert!

One Simple Change: This outfit can be worn for a night out with friends as well as a concert with a few changes. She can swap out the denim jeans for a dressier black pant and change the shoes to a cute wedge. This would dress up the outfit perfectly for a night out!
