TREND: Plaid is not just a girl’s fad!

If you didn’t warm up to plaid last season, it looks as if you’ll have yet another season to try out this trend!  Though almost all boys have a subtle plaid button down shirt hanging in their closet, bold flannel shirts are a huge hit this season.  They’re an easy way to transition from laid-back to a polished style when you pair your shirt with matching loafers and jeans.  Whether you join the Minnetonka club or stay loyal to your leather dress shoes, any guy will look confident and fashion forward in a plaid shirt!

To ensure that you don’t look like a lumberjack, opt for a fitted shirt.  For an effortlessly cool option that will keep you warm in the fall, aim for rich colors and roll up the sleeves like this Fashionisto.  And boys…don’t shy away from a little bit of jewelry to complete your outfit!

Hint: Plaid is not just for girls. Go out and buy yourself a fitted, bold colored button-down that will exude character and refinement!

TREND: seerSucker for style

This Fashionisto stood out in a crowd of khaki shorts and tee shirts. While scoping out booths on Quad Day, he chose to wear a pair of tailored, seer sucker shorts, a versatile grey v-neck and classic grey sneakers. The look is so simple, so stylish and also helped this Fashionisto to stay cool in the large crowds and sweltering temperature. This is a great look for going to class, hanging out on the weekend, grabbing lunch at FlatTop or playing sports on the Quad. Guys take a lesson from this Fashionisto – you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style. This look is just as comfortable and yet a major style step up from the usual shorts and a tee shirt. It also takes no effort – this entire look (tee, shorts and shoes) can be found at the Urban Outfitters on Green Street.

TREND: If the shoe fits…

While out shopping last week, I spotted this Fashionista working at the Girly Chic Boutique in Broadripple. The simplicity of her cute blue dress with a touch of green lace at the bottom hem could be casual for work during the day, then rocked out with heels for a dinner on the town. Nevertheless, her shoes hold their own. The nude shade is a change from the brown or black that usually graces our feet. Don’t be afraid to wear pastels like our Fashionista in the upcoming fall season that is usually filled with dark purple and

WEEKEND FORECAST: You’re on my Fashion Radar…

It’s that time again – the weekend! So go out, have fun and look hot while doing it.

Did you like Britney Spear’s look in her Radar video? Well, I did. She definitely embodied a look that was weekend wardrobe worthy.

Believe it or not, she was completely decked out in Kohl’s junior brand, Candie's. All the way from her studded, fur vest to her sexy, tall boots. So if you want celebrity style this weekend, shop at the Bloomington Kohl’s to find great deals on some trendy pieces.

And if you are still looking for a place to strut your stuff, today at 8 p.m., N.E.R.D. is coming to the IU Auditorium.

Keep your style rockin’, Fashionistas! Because like Britney said, “edginess is a rush.”

FASHION NEWS: Christian Siriano Get FIERCE For Less

I, as well as most other Fashionistas, LOVE Project Runway. An unhealthy amount actually- twice it has brought me to tears. The first time was season one when Austin Scarlett didn’t make it into the top 3- that was just ridiculous. The second time was the season finale of season four. Christian Siriano, the youngest contestant to win Project Runway and the crowd favorite displayed the most beautiful runway show I’ve ever seen. It was dark and gothic but still completely feminine-I loved it, as did the judges. Not so surprisingly Siriano’s career took off, and now he is doing all of us a favor by designing a seriously fierce line of shoes for Payless. Inspired by Egyptian artifacts, these shoes are full of spikes, chains, and treacherously high heels, well worth the $25-$45 price point. I personally cannot wait to have a Siriano designed piece in my own closet, my favorites are the brown booties!

Let’s hear it for the BOYS

College Fashionistos: I know you all could never dare part ways with your boat shoes-wearing this footwear to class, when grabbing fast food with your boys and even out to the bars. That’s why I felt it was neccesary to suggest some new styles and modifications to get you to toss your worn out pair and simply upgrade to a fresh set for the school year…trust me your girlfriend will appreciate it!

Hint: This style echoes August 1950s in the Hamptons when paired with socks that can

TREND: UNEXPECTED LACE

Prior to the fall runway shows this year, lace conjured up two things for me: my great-Grandmothers musty attic and playboy worthy lingerie. But this time around the sheer fabric is getting things right with its unconventional pairings, such as this Fashionista’s Givenchy shoes. We love that she styled the sexy shoe with more casual daytime pieces, making the look less vampy and more playful.

Hint: Another take on the fabric we love is the look of a simple and sheer lace tank. To make the look less risque, choose a menswear blazer on top. You’ll show just the right amount of skin to pull off the top without looking tacky.
