The Tiered Tassel Earrings Trend Is Here for the Summer

This summer’s tassel earring trend is one that no Fashionista/o wants to miss. Tassel earrings are a funky and fresh take on typical dainty, dangling earrings that have been around for years. With a pair of these silk or cotton tassel accessories, you can take any outfit up a notch or two. Brands such as Forever 21, MISA Los Angeles, Shopbop, Urban Outfitters, and BaubleBar are just a few to name that have hopped on board the tassel earring train.

Summer, Florals, and Tassels, Oh My!

Warm sunny days, delicious brunch, days at the lake, and summer fashion galore. It’s mid-summertime and freckles are just starting to appear. Bright colors, floral prints, and sandals are everywhere you look on campus and downtown. This summer, in particular, I have noticed a lot of tassel earrings and floral fashions. So get ready, pull out your straw hats and market totes for a trip down floral and tassel lane!

Florals have always been a print for the seasons of spring and summer. Whether you wear a floral print as a top, dress, romper, shorts, pants, or even as an accessory, these are all great options! I paired my floral top with a white bralette both from Blue Arrow Boutique, a pair of white American Eagle jeans, bangles from Alex and Ani, and Guess wedges. Lucky for us Fashionistas, floral prints come in all different colors, bright or pastel, which creates a nice little section in your closet dedicated to those summer florals.

Another great summer trend that has been on the rise are tassels. Tassels have been worn from necklaces, earrings, keychains, to shoes. There are many different materials that tassel accessories are made from such as leather, beads, and lightweight yarn. I accessorized my outfit with tassels by having a necklace and a keychain from Crave by CRV. I always have loved tassel accents; they are a perfect way to add some color and flare to an outfit, keys, or a purse!

These are a few of my favorite summer trends. Florals, straw hats, white jeans, totes, and tassels are great for any occasion or vacation; you are bound to be complimented!

Summer Abroad Must-Haves

For the past six weeks, I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy, through a study abroad program. Although the city itself is known for its ancient ruins, architecture, and art, fashion is a pivotal part of the everyday lives of those living in the city. From the food to the fashion, my experience has opened my eyes up to new trends as well as new ways to style trends I was already familiar with back home, so I decided to incorporate a few into this look.

Gingham is a classic pattern that is more favorable in menswear for button-down, but this summer this trend has blossomed into women’s wear and is a must have this season. From dresses to skirts to tops, this trend is one that is easy to accessorize with due to its classic color scheme. This embroidered and tassel top from Zara is the perfect way to incorporate this trend into an everyday look.

Take your shoe game to the next level, literally, with this killer pair of canvas platforms. Throughout Rome, women of all ages and heights are sporting this trend this summer. Whether it be sneakers or a pair of sandals, platforms are an easy compromise for the height of a heel, but the comfort of a sneaker. With my five foot ten stature, I was timid to try this trend. However, as soon as I tried these shoes on I knew they were a casual and convenient way to rock this look this season.

For my outfit, I paired these two trends with one another on top of a distressed pair of skinny jeans. I accessorized with my favorite brown leather tote, which is perfect for summer classes, markets, and all that Rome requires.

Beat the Heat

It’s everyone’s favorite season, and the heat has definitely arrived. So let’s talk summer style. Three trends that have been dominating the summer fashion market are overalls, tassel earrings, and bandanas. all three which this Fashionista tackles effortlessly. By sticking to the same color scheme, she can add several accessories to this look without overdoing it. I love how the usage of darker colors still looks summer fresh on this blonde beauty.

Overalls have been trending for a while, and how refreshing is it to have something in style that is insanely comfortable? I’m particularly fond of overalls that are not made of jean material, which makes them even softer. Pair them with a cute bra or a colorful crop top and you’re good to go. Keeping your summer looks as light as possible is crucial during this heat wave, especially to avoid those dreaded sweat marks. It’s the perfect look to travel in as well, whether it’s a road trip or a plane ride.

I personally adore the bandana trend, especially since it can be tied in so many different ways. Around your neck, on your head, wrapped around your bun or pony tail, on your bag. and so on. This Fashionista has a custom embroidered bandana in black, which ties together nicely with her black mules. Mules have definitely been on everyone’s radar lately, and I’m not surprised. They are simple, easy to slip on, and give an effortless look. Mules have a thicker and higher heel, which makes this a great day-to-night outfit. If your forte is a killer day outfit, switch out the mules with some simple white sneakers and you are all set for your next festival. Another perfect scenario for this outfit would be a day of exploring and shopping. The overalls are easy to slip on and off, and the light fabric keeps you cool for all day activities.

Living Like Locals: Florence Edition

Summer in Florence, Italy is like something I have never experienced. The weather is blazing hot during the day, and the locals somehow manage to wear pants and jackets no matter the temperature. Compared to my usual weather in Michigan, if it rises above 50 degrees everyone whips out their shorts and sandals. Finding a balance to coordinate between the low tolerance for heat, and wanting to blend in with the locals, is a challenge that Fashionistas abroad willingly accept.

Florence has an endless amount of boutiques to assist with this transition. One thing I learned quickly when I first arrived in Italy—if you see something cute, buy it. The odds of being able to find the boutique again are slim, and then you’ll be lying in bed for weeks thinking about that perfect pair of gold, platform espadrilles that would match your entire wardrobe (I have personal experience with this tragic event).

This Fashionista found a pair of high-waisted navy, pants to stay on trend with the wide leg look. I recently have become obsessed with the color navy. It’s a staple item in my wardrobe, no matter what season it is. These pants are also quite versatile with whatever top you choose to pair it with. Try a patterned top for a bolder look. Her top is a basic white top for some flare. Tassels are one of my favorite trends so far this season! They add some fun to any piece. This shirt would also be cute with a classic pair of jean shorts. She is finishing the look off with round sunglasses and blush sandals.

This look can be dressed up with platform espadrilles and simple gold jewelry. This is the perfect ensemble for going to your summer class, brunch with your girlfriends, or a coffee date. Both pieces are easy to mix and match with just about anything in your closet.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Cutouts and Tassels

Mixing textures and fabrics is a fantastic way to spice up an everyday look. This Fashionista paired a colorful, cotton romper with a soft, fuzzy, oatmeal-colored cardigan.

Moving into the specifics of the outfit, the delicate trim on the shorts of the romper really caught my eye. Such a cute detail makes the romper that much more girly. The halter top of the romper is a classic neckline that complements any body shape. The keyhole cutout in the front of the romper is another detail that adds a bit of flare to the look. The color and pattern of the romper are very flattering and would look great with any skin tone.

The cardigan that this Fashionista paired with her romper is the perfect textured piece. I love how she rolled the sleeves up just a tiny bit. This is one of my favorite things to add to an outfit. The oversize fit goes perfect with this look.

Her hair up in a messy bun, paired with these gold frame, black sunglasses really finish this look off. They have just the right amount of detail to complement her outfit without overpowering the look.

These tan, lace-up gladiator sandals perfectly complete her outfit. They are totally on trend and are amazing for warm summer days. The tassel detail is my absolute favorite part of these sandals.

This outfit as a whole has many wonderful details that really bring the whole look together, from the keyhole cutout to the tassels on the sandals. Remember to pay attention to detail.

WHAT TO WEAR: Silver Winter

On some days, you will want your outfit to stand out, but on some other days, it will also be interesting to let your accessory shine and speak for itself. Compared to gold, silver is a sophisticated yet humble color. Silver’s shininess can also make it go both ways, from elegant to modern and alluring. In my opinion, silver is also some of the easiest colors to match on any outfits, which easily stands out in the white snow and adds a little sparkle among the dark clothing worn in winter.

This Fashionista says she chose to keep her outfit fairly simple and color neutral today so that the accessories could be the focal point of the look. She wears a white pea coat from American Eagle that looks warm and chic, and she tops it off with a light-colored paisley patterned scarf from Joe Fresh to add some interesting patterns over her coat. This Fashionista completes her outfit with a pair of black Hunter boots, which are the perfect complement to almost any outfit at this time of year because they keep her feet dry from either snow or rain.

Spotting this Fashionista from far away, her shiny silver backpack instantly stood out from all the dark colors worn by other students and caught my attention. She wears a Camille faux leather backpack in silver from Frachella. This versatile backpack is stylish and one of a kind: It is uncommon to find huge leather products that are silver in color, and this backpack gives out a classy yet edgy vibe, perfect to wear from day to night in all occasions. The roomy interior also easily fit a laptop and the magnet closure allows convenient access to your essential items for school. My favorite part of this backpack is the drawstring accessory, because tassels are still taking over the accessory scene this year and these silver tassels add a touch of sophisticated detail to the simple design of the backpack.

To match her backpack, this Fashionista wears a silver customized, hand-stamped cuff bracelet that says Wanderlust. The slim cuff is made of aluminum and is from Locked Box Boutique. You can request to put your own desired customization, such as your favorite life motto or song lyrics. You can also add cute symbols to make a unique jewelry. This simple yet dainty arm candy looks great on its own or stacked with a watch or other jewelry.

This Fashionista was also holding a colorful card holder on her hand, which is a double-sided leather card holder in smokey gray from an Italian brand called Mywalit. There are six credit card slots and a central note section, which can definitely carry all the cards a student needs, especially one who commutes to school. This functional multi-colored card holder made of Nappa leather screams quality and boldness in creativity.

Who says flowers can’t be a thing in winter? Here, she accessorizes her phone with a geometric teal and navy winter flowers case from Case Escape to protect her phone from everyday scratches and bumps while keeping it stylish.

STYLE GURU STYLE: Hello Spring

The days of cozy knits and cold winter mornings are slowly coming to an end. Spring is finally approaching, and it’s time to make some changes in our wardrobe. Spring is definitely my favorite time of the year for many reasons. The pretty flowers, warm weather, and flowy outfits are the perfect combination to ring in the new season.

For me, I feel like it’s easier to find the motivation to dress up more when the weather is warmer. In the winter, like most college students, I tend to just throw on leggings and a sweatshirt and head off to class. Because, let’s be honest, wearing jeans and boots all day is not my idea of comfortable class attire. On the other hand, in the springtime, wearing some chambray shorts and a comfy V-neck with some sandals automatically makes it look like you actually put some effort into your outfit that morning.

My closet is full of basic pieces that I can mix and match outfits with. So, for this look, I threw together some of them to make the perfect spring outfit. The button-down skirt trend has been popular for a little while now and I love how versatile it is. I wanted to go for a casual outfit that is perfect for going to class, shopping, or on a date so, I paired a denim button-down skirt with a plain white scoop neck T-shirt. You could definitely dress this up by adding a floral blouse. I then added some lace-up sandals that are my absolute favorite. To add some color to this look, I am wearing a beaded tassel necklace.

WHAT TO WEAR: Florals for Spring

Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. You know the infamous saying. With spring right around the corner, it’s time to come out of the winter slump at full force. Sometimes, it can be tricky transitioning seasons. I think the best way to take on spring is with anything fun and floral.

All of the focus is on this Fashionista’s top, more importantly, the floral embroidery. Although florals are an obvious choice for spring, embroidery is a unique way to switch it up. Embroidery is huge right now and it is only going to continue to be seen everywhere. I love how the top is a lighter color so the details really have a chance to show off. Even though the flowers are the first thing you see, there are also some other great details on this top. There are small stripes and polka dots, which make for a delicate look. The sleeves on this top are also super cool. Take full advantage of the warmer weather that spring brings and show some skin. The cutout shoulders are a perfect example of how to do that. A classic bun for her hair was a great idea to show off the shoulders. For the rest of her outfit, she kept it pretty simple. As for her shoes, she chose a pair of brown leather booties. Then, she finished the look off with a small burgundy crossbody featuring a tassel.

You really cannot go wrong wearing florals. Add some embroidery to your outfit and stop and smell the roses this spring!

STYLE ADVICE: Embrace the Lace

Lace up is all the rage, have you seen it? If the answer is no then I suggest you take a closer look the next time you are out. Lace up garments and shoes have always been on trend, and I have even spotted lace up chokers! But, bigger than these preexisting fashion trends are the lace up plunge tops and lace up miniskirts!

My style advice: Embrace the lace! No matter what your style may be, these two lace up garments are the perfect additions to any closet. They can transform your look from lunch date to a night out on the town! These lace up plunge tops are the perfect way to add personality to any look and have been made easily available by many local stores and retailers. Personally, I am a fan of the lace up ’80s and ’90s graphic rock band T-shirts, but hey, I’m a ’90s chick.

This Fashionista chose to go with a more chic look for an afternoon downtown. If you are looking for the perfect double duo then nothing pairs better together than a suede lace-up miniskirt and thigh-high suede boots: the perfect compliments. As we start to proceed into the warmer months of the year, it’s important to keep that perfect pair of sunglasses on you at all times, the classic Ray-Ban aviators. The personalization of this outfit truly lies in the personalization of the accessories. These tassel earrings aren’t just any tassel earrings; the colorful beads add a lot of sparkle and help to dress the outfit up a bit. For us Fashionistas/os of today, we certainly have a lot to carry and take around with us. If you really want to be a trendsetter, that calls for a classic and timeless piece: the perfect bag!

As I leave you on this beautiful March day, remember to make your style who you are, be confident, and ALWAYS embrace the lace!
