How to Shine Like a Rainbow After a Storm

Summer is the season for festivals, concerts, cookouts, and exploring. Any activity under the sun is a great chance to spend time with loved ones while soaking up some vitamin D. Unfortunately, gray clouds sometimes interrupt the fun, literally and figuratively. With warm weather comes more revealing clothing and not everyone feels comfortable enough in their own skin to get out there and enjoy the heat. This look is the perfect confidence booster that embraces a woman’s shine and stunning personality: a rainbow after a storm.

The main focus of this look is the flowy, maxi dress. This piece is very flattering with the natural waist and long skirt. Its colorful, vertical stripes are eye-catching and bring an element of joy to the simple maxi dress shape. However, the best part of this dress is how dynamic it is. The flowing skirt bounces and twirls as you move; so run, spin, and dance! Find delight in how your body moves: your dress is celebrating with you.

I paired this stand-out piece with a pair of brown wedges and pink sunglasses. The understated, warm, brown shade of the shoes complements the bright colors in the dress. The added height helps give that extra boost of confidence and encourages you to stand tall and proud. Pink sunglasses were the cherry on top of this look. While the dress is a statement in itself, these sunglasses are funky and adventurous. As they protect your stunning eyes, their unusual shape adds a touch of daring to the look.

Finally, I topped the look off with my favorite accessory: a smile. Fashion has always been a way for me to find my confidence. If I dress like a boss, I am a boss. However, this is only half the battle. You need to believe you are as beautiful, unique, and fun as you look, so let yourself shine. A smile reminds you that you are as wonderful to behold as a rainbow after a storm.

Sunshine and White

Styling for summer can be hard. Trying to stay cool while also being cute can be tricky, but flowy and lightweight clothing is key. Yellow and white are great for this season and pair very nicely together. Our Fashionista here has perfectly demonstrated how to rock this fun color combo.

Few people are able to pull off anything yellow simply because they don’t know how to correctly wear the color. This muted shade of yellow complements her olive skin tone and dark hair, as well as the white pants. The material of the top is lightweight, meaning that it won’t create too much body heat in this ridiculously hot summer weather.

The pants in this outfit are fabulous. The white pants give the overall look a lighter and more appropriate feel for the season. Wide pant legs tend to be extremely flattering on everyone, but especially shorter girls. They give the illusion of longer and taller legs while also dressing up the outfit. The tie belt adds a little extra detail to the otherwise plain and simple pants.

Brown wedges are a wardrobe essential. They are classic and can turn any casual outfit into more of a dressy one. The straps on this particular pair are cute and add detail. Not only do the wide leg pants make this Fashionista’s legs look longer, but paired with the wedges, she looks even taller. They pair together very well.

I love the subtle jewelry in this outfit. The metal tone of the necklace is very “in” right now. It’s delicate yet chunky at the same time. The watch is cute and simple, and it pairs greatly with the look.

This is outfit is a great look for the summer. Whether it’s to a nice lunch with your girlfriends or for a date night dinner out, this is a versatile outfit for the whole season.

Summer, Florals, and Tassels, Oh My!

Warm sunny days, delicious brunch, days at the lake, and summer fashion galore. It’s mid-summertime and freckles are just starting to appear. Bright colors, floral prints, and sandals are everywhere you look on campus and downtown. This summer, in particular, I have noticed a lot of tassel earrings and floral fashions. So get ready, pull out your straw hats and market totes for a trip down floral and tassel lane!

Florals have always been a print for the seasons of spring and summer. Whether you wear a floral print as a top, dress, romper, shorts, pants, or even as an accessory, these are all great options! I paired my floral top with a white bralette both from Blue Arrow Boutique, a pair of white American Eagle jeans, bangles from Alex and Ani, and Guess wedges. Lucky for us Fashionistas, floral prints come in all different colors, bright or pastel, which creates a nice little section in your closet dedicated to those summer florals.

Another great summer trend that has been on the rise are tassels. Tassels have been worn from necklaces, earrings, keychains, to shoes. There are many different materials that tassel accessories are made from such as leather, beads, and lightweight yarn. I accessorized my outfit with tassels by having a necklace and a keychain from Crave by CRV. I always have loved tassel accents; they are a perfect way to add some color and flare to an outfit, keys, or a purse!

These are a few of my favorite summer trends. Florals, straw hats, white jeans, totes, and tassels are great for any occasion or vacation; you are bound to be complimented!

Summer Must-Haves

Summer has always been my favorite time of the whole year, especially when I’m at the beach. I love long nights, laughs, and walks in the sand all with close friends and family.  Every year my family goes to Hilton Head Island. When we planned our vacation this year I found out that a family member was going to get married on the beach. I, always worried about fashion, immediately was wondering what I was going to wear.

I was looking for an outfit that was dressy but not over the top. When I found this item, I knew it was the one. The romper with the train on the back made it the perfect style for a beach wedding. I mean come on, it is the best of both worlds between a dress and a romper! With these bright red and blue tones covering the dress, it just popped in the sun. Lastly, the braided detail on the back and the deep V-neck sold me. I paired the look with my favorite shoes of the summer, jean lace up Michael Kors wedges. They are by far the most amazing and comfortable heels I have. While we still have over a month of summer left and the sun to soak in I cannot wait to find more items like these to wear. One thing I did learn from the deep V-neck was to always have a safety pin because sometimes it may be slightly too deep.

As you can tell I love the beach, so I would love to hear about everyone’s must have summer looks and/or hangout spots in the comments below! Remember, always carry a safety pin, Fashionistas.

My Summer Favorites

Summer is my favorite time of the year. Not only am I out of school and visiting friends I haven’t seen in a while, I am also styling myself with cute and simple clothing pieces and accessories. Summer is the time of the year when I try my hardest to reinvent and upgrade my closet with current trends.

Chokers have been trending for a while now. I just recently got hooked on this accessory. A simple black choker can dress up any outfit without looking too gaudy. I like the simplicity and versatility of the trend. A choker is something that can be worn in any season and it costs close to nothing. I chose to pair the choker with a small pair of pearls, my Alex and Ani bracelets, and a simple ring. I never leave the house without a pair of earrings or without a ring on my finger.

Another summer favorite of mine is printed shorts. I own pairs of shorts with Aztec, mandala, and floral designs. The elastic waistband of these loose and flowy shorts makes them very comfortable to wear. It also gives my outfit a beachy and Bohemian vibe. I usually wear them with a solid colored tank top, but they can also be worn with a graphic T-shirt and flats for a more understated look. Also, if it’s a little breezy out, a leather or denim jacket looks nice with them. Intricate Mandala and Aztec designs have influenced my personal style, especially in the summer.

Wedges and gladiator shoes are my favorites to wear in the summer. My favorite pair is these black ones. They help dress up any outfit and are very easy to walk in. I can wear them with almost any article of clothing. These sandals will never go out of style and can be found at any store.

I like to keep my makeup very natural, especially as it gets hotter outside. Winged eyeliner has always been a challenge for me. However, the tape trick actually helped me a lot! I used a soft pink lip gloss since I was wearing some dark colors. As the days get hotter, I’ll usually only wear mascara with a nude or pink lip.

Chokers, printed shorts, and wedges have been my summer favorites so far. What are yours? Upload a photo on social media and make sure to tag @Cfashionista!

How to Stand Out at a White Party

White parties are a summer classic. I love nothing more than all my friends getting together on a beautiful summer day for drinks and snacks dressed in all white. But there’s one problem with white parties… everyone looks the same. One of my favorite things about fashion is how we can use it to express ourselves, but when there’s a strict, all-white dress code, this can be tricky. However, if you get creative, you can totally be the star at your next white party.

Let’s start with this white romper. It is one of my favorite things in my closet right now. It’s lightweight and has a drawstring at the waist so I can wear it loose or rock it fitted at the waist with a pair of cool sneakers and a ponytail. It’s perfect for a white party because, well, it’s white. It is unique and trendy because it has a subtle embroidered bird print on it, rather than a solid white dress or simple white pants.

Rather than white shoes, I decided to rock light, metallic wedges that won’t completely stand apart from the all-white theme, but still pop a little bit. I love a wedge in the summertime, and I really think there isn’t a better shoe to wear to an outdoor party. The shiny gold straps let my personality shine through while allowing me to bring in some other gold accessories, like my stacked bracelets.

Now on to the fun part… that metallic lipstick. I love bold lipstick with white, but for a white party where literally everything down to the smallest toothpick is white, a more neutral lip might be a good call. Neutral doesn’t have to be boring, though. Try a gold metallic lipstick to put a shimmery twist on a basic nude. I love this lipstick because it ties in with my sassy shoes and looks great on a variety of skin tones. Layer it over a lip primer and it will stay all day, no matter how many mimosas you have. It’s awesome for summer, but I’ll definitely be sporting it in the fall and through the winter (hello, my new favorite holiday shade). It’s just bold enough to be the perfect conversation starter.

Next time you receive a little white invitation in the mail, remember to get creative and let your personality (and metallic lips) stand out in a crowd.

Sunshine On My Mind—Simple Summer Looks

I’d be lying if I said fashion didn’t recycle. The iconic women’s jumpsuit has been around for several decades and continues to make an appearance in fashion today. In the early 1940s, women began to take over men’s jobs due to World War II. This began the era of the pin-up girl and ultimately introduced women in the working class. From house wife to operational, the jumpsuit became a staple look for working women. In the 1960s, Woodstock, youth rebellions, and new knitting technology revamped jumpsuits even more, and as the years continued, jumpsuits became more and more common. Today we see hundreds of styles and trends with not only jumpsuits but rompers. This military green jumpsuit was a spontaneous find at Abercrombie & Fitch. Offered in multiple colors, the cool linen and viscose fabric blend make it cool enough to wear on a sunny summer day. In addition, it is offered in multiple warm colors and petite sizes and has pockets which are always a win for me!

I’m a sucker for ruffles and this Abercrombie white ruffled and studded top is perfect for any summer outing. The linen fabric makes it breathable for hot summer days and the overall simplicity and detail of it made me fall in love. I paired this top with some high-waisted light wash jeans from Forever 21 and my brown wedges from Aldo.

These are just two of my simple summer looks. What are your summer go-to outfits? Let me know in the comments below!

Simple And Chic Summer Outfit

It’s summer for most of us with spring semester being over. What is there to expect now? There’s no more classes, no more homework, just time to enjoy the sun and good company. When I go out with friends and family, I like to be a little more dressed up and so does this Fashionista.

Since it is still the beginning of this summer season, the weather is not too hot and unbearable. This means it is quite acceptable and manageable to wear jeans. My favorite during spring and summer are white jeans. There is something about white jeans that can make an outfit look very chic and put together.

This Fashionista paired her white jeans with a wine colored tank top. Her tank top is quite simple, but it does have some detailed embroidery along the center and around the bottom. The detail design is l sure catch some people’s eyes.

As for shoes, this Fashionista has opted for a pair of tan wedges. The straps around the ankle wraps around nicely hugging her feet. The wedges gives this outfit more of a dressed up look. This outfit can be paired with some flat sandals as well if you want to be more comfortable.

Whether it’s going out to eat with friends and family or it’s just a day out to spend with loved ones, this outfit is the perfect go-to outfit. It is simple and easy to put together.

Out of the Office

When I landed an internship at an insurance company for the summer, I was excited to get a taste of the corporate world and spend my days being a “real adult” in dress pants and oxford shirts. Though I’m loving my job, the novelty of wearing professional clothes has worn off quickly, and I look forward to wearing something a bit more me when I’m out of the office.

This look is one of my favorites for a summer night out. I’m an advocate for white denim, despite my unfortunate tendency to spill coffee on myself at least once a day.  White skinny jeans look crisp and put-together at the office on casual Friday with a cardigan and wedges, but with a flirty top and accessories, they transition into a Friday night look. And no, I won’t be following the “no white after Labor Day” rule. White jeans can be styled for any season!

My embroidered peasant top is breezy and colorful (everything that an oxford is not), and works well with my favorite Kendra Scott earrings. I added wedges and a vintage bag in similar cognac leathers to tie the look together.

When it comes to my hair, I learned long ago that my blow dryer and straightener were no match for the humidity of Wisconsin summers. For the summer months, I’m letting my natural curls do what they do best and giving my hair a break from the heat.  Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk is the best curl cream I’ve found for defining and moisturizing thick, coarse curls.

Come Monday morning, I’ll be back in my dress pants, but for now, I’m enjoying this colorful, summery look.

Sleek 2017 Summer Trends

Do you ever wake up on a hot summer day and immediately regret the fact that you have to put on clothes? No one wants to get out of bed and into clothes that are bound to hold heat while you’re already living and doing everyday tasks in it without a choice. Check out this super trendy and easy way to spice up your summer and stay cool, sophisticated, and alluring all at the same time.

Maxi dresses have been around for quite some time now. However, they are still an extremely popular, trending, and comfortable piece of clothing. That being said, they are one piece. When wearing a maxi there is no need for extra layers and sometimes no need to even worry about undergarments. This particular article is based on the comfort and stylish ways of throwing on a maxi, adding a few accessories, and being ready to leave the house in a flash!

There has been past controversy on whether or not the colors black and brown coincide with each other. Here I have put together an outfit that I believe would be an example of a way to avoid the conflict of the colors and create a look that is simple yet intriguing. This Fashionista is wearing a simple black printed dress with cut-out accents. In addition, she added brown as a contrasting color for her accessories; a sun hat, some bangles, Namaste bracelets, and a simple brown, strapped wedge.

What’s great about this summer look is that it can take you anywhere. This look is perfect for going to dinner, throwing on something in order to make a quick run to the store, going out for the day and running simple errands, and even vacation or the beach. As long as there is sun, this outfit is the one.
