I’ve been on the shorts with tights and boots bandwagon since a trip to Melbourne, Australia back in May 2008. So, I was excited to spot today’s Fashionista sporting a twist on that trend. Her mustard yellow beret was actually the first thing to catch my eye, but I quickly turned my attention to her funky bloomer shorts from American Apparel. Bloomers are not the easiest trend to incorporate into your wardrobe, especially without drawing the same criticism last season’s Project Runway judges gave April Johnston for a similar design they dubbed “diaper shorts”. Today’s Fashionista steers clear of that fashion misstep by pairing navy bloomers with sedated gray tights and sturdy hunting boots picked up from Goodwill. Her ruffled top adds a girly touch but the mustard yellow of both her shirt and beret keep the look funky rather than frilly. All together, this Fashionista has created a cozy yet fashion forward outfit perfect for a spring afternoon.
