Before I get sued for copyright infringement for this quote, I would like to already give credit where credit is due and it belongs to Mr. Louis Vuitton Don himself, Mr. Kanye West. In one of his infamous tweets, he said that “Black is the new Black” and he is right. Black will forever be considered as one of the underlying foundations for an outfit. For whatever reason we may be dressing up for (a casual date night or an elegant formal affair), the color black will never fail to keep up chic, stylish and trendy.
Just look various fashion shows throughout the years. There has never been a color more predominant than black. It can be seen year round season after season. It will never go out of style and our fashionista proves exactly why is that so. She is wearing an all black outfit that consists of boots, pants, top, bag and trench coat. Wearing all black can seem boring sometimes but our fashionista keeps it interesting adding a chunky knit off-white scarf as a nice touch and as a contrast to the all black. She cinches her trench coat at the waist that shows her figure underneath and makes the outfit look not sloppy at all (as sometimes perceived when someone wears all black).
Remember though, just because something is in the color black doesn’t mean it will flatter everyone. The cut of the top, dress, skirt and pants still matters. An example is our fashionista’s trend coat. It may flatter our fashionista well but this doesn’t mean it will also flatter someone who is petite for it will only overwhelm their small figutre. Make sure try on an outfit before buying in order to see if it is truly worth the investment or something that you will just regret along the way. We are still college students after all.
On a college campus, it is very difficult to discover well-dressed young men. All too often, college men will be dressed in a less than impressive manner. To all the young men and proud Fashionistos reading this, please, dress to impress. The ladies and other gentlemen will appreciate it; that is a promise. Imagine my utter delight upon stumbling across this Fashionisto. He is so well dressed I could weep! Gentlemen, take notes! What caught my eye was how chic the head to toe black looked and how confidently he wore his outfit. It takes a special Fashionisto to rock the head to toe black look correctly.
Black is perhaps the most abused color in the wardrobes of many people. Black is often a go-to color for wanting to appear thin or for when you are too lazy to come up with an outfit. Just because black is a simple color does not mean it is easy to rock. This Fashionisto manages to look both simple and sophisticated. His black button-up shirt, buttoned all the way to the collar gives the outfit a formal feel. Not enough college men casually wear formal wear, and after seeing this Fashionisto, I wonder why not! The buttons on his button-up shirt contrast nicely against his entire outfit and add to the look of sophisticated simplicity.
The nicely fitting black skinny jeans are figure flattering, and a casual contrast to the formality of the black button up. The well-cut, well fitting, black coat with the high collar has an almost old fashioned look to it. The coat gives the outfit a very masculine feel, and is also trendy right now. Similar coats can be found at Blackbird. The silver belt buckle adds for a nice pop of different coloring in the blackness of the entire outfit. The black oxford shoes finish up the outfit, and also provide a very old-school formal gentleman look.
Looking at this outfit, some people may just see black. This Fashionisto did a fantastic job of mixing casual wear with formal wear and thus making a unique blend of laid back, old school sophistication. But the star of this outfit is without a doubt the brown leather briefcase that this Fashionisto so proudly holds. Prada sells a similar briefcase. It would have been easy to pick a black briefcase to finish off this all black look. But even though brown is a neutral color; it is shockingly bright next to the black in the outfit. Taking a neutral color and making it just as shocking as a bright color takes skill. This Fashionisto knows exactly what he is doing and is not afraid to take risks.
Fashionistas, you can never go wrong with black.
I learned this valuable style lesson when I went to New York City for the first time. Every fabulous NYC Fashionista I saw was dressed head to toe in black. It seemed as if you could tell if someone was a tourist or not from a mile away simply by spotting color in their ensembles. New Yorkers are known for their elegance, sleekness, and undeniable style- who wouldn
