For the majority of history, it’s been a man’s world. Confidence and an unabashedly boy-ish attitude exuded by a female have been historically scorned upon until recently. Women can portray confidence in many ways: morals, athletics, humor, and even eating habits (finishing an overflowing Chipotle burrito—or maybe two—before your male counterpart). But, one of the best ways to tell the world that, “Yes, I am a woman and, yes, I can be feminine, but strong," is through an outfit.
What attracted me to this Fashionista was her blazer. She looks like she raided her boyfriend’s closet this morning and said, “Sorry, but I’m wearing this today. You can wear it next week.” You go girl. The woolen grey of the suit-like jacket almost reminds me of a sophisticated equestrian. The cut allows her to look dressed up, but without trying hard at all. The fact that her cuffs are rolled back just the slightest bit shows that she isn’t afraid to get her hands a little dirty and is ready to tackle the day ahead. A slightly puffy shoulder tops this jacket off and gives a feminine punch to a traditionally masculine garment.
Blazers come in all shapes, sizes, and textures. So, you can make any perfect blazer your own. For something more old-school and playful, check out this tuxedo blazer (it reminds me of Sloane Peterson in Ferris Beuller’s Day Off). If you want something entirely classic, this navy blazer will give a wonderfully boy-ish flare to any outfit. Little details on a blazer are all you need to make the jacket your own. Want to nix the buttons? This belted blazer will do the trick. Or, for puffy shoulders, try this vintage beauty. Finally, for all you textile addicts, this velvet blazer is a winner.
So ladies, it’s safe to say that the line between male and female garb is pretty blurry. It’s okay to tap into your tomboy side and still look completely feminine. Women will look up to you and men will, well, be jealous.
