TREND: Color Story

Every season introduces a new color palette that shapes the trends we’ll see for months to come. Some of the best new hues for spring 2011 include coral, lavender, pale pink and a metallic take on gray. Another fresh shade you’re going to spot everywhere? ‘Peapod’ green, a whimsical garden tone that will grace everything from coats to clutches. Even in different variations these colors will impress, so don’t feel shy to mix up your shades and switch up your look.

Today's Fashionista works her gray and green with three perfect layering pieces every girl should own. They’re not going anywhere, so feel free to invest in or upgrade your perfect white tee, super soft leggings and comfy gray cardigan. Who says you can’t wear two sweaters at once? The fitted button up is a great contrast to a darker, slightly heavier knit. The strong difference in the two shades is key, so layer your own light/dark look, or pick a long sweater you love in a print that really stands out.

Fashion is all about knowing what works and what doesn’t. Whether you’re mixing textures, patterns or colors, style is sensing how to do it and when to stop. From the looks of it, it’s clear today’s Fashionista knows her stuff.

Hint: Dressing in trendy basics provides the best opportunity for working another fashion color into your look. If your outfit is mostly monochrome cool, try adding a ‘beeswax’ bag as your second style statement. Other cool color combos for spring? Try coral with gray or ballet pink for some girly contrast that’s one hundred percent en pointe.
