TREND: Denim Days

The '90s: an era that brought us the scrunchy, flannel and overalls. A time most of us Fashionistas look back on and wonder how high-waisted jean shorts that went down to your knees and tall socks were ever acceptable standards in the fashion world. Like many trends, some of the 90's favorites have escaped the time capsule and headed into the millennium. The crop top and plaid flannel have both emerged in recent years as top trends and I'm excited to say that the jean jacket has finally made its way back into the hearts of trendsetters today.

In fourth grade, my jean jacket with studded rhinestones that lined the seams was my pride and joy. It went with everything and I rarely took it off.  But as the years went on I realized that the jean jacket trend was sadly coming to an end. I put it in a bag to give to the Salvation Army and never saw it again. Lucky for me, the fashion world is giving this fabulous trend another chance! The Fashionista seen here adds a slight twist on the conventional jean jacket by wearing an adorable jean vest over her sun dress. The jean vest is especially convenient to wear in late summer months when you want to wear something over a dress or tank but don't want anything too heavy. The contrast between the jean vest and knit of her dress paired with the brown leather boots give her that fun and flirty vibe so easily put off by the beauties of the South.

Go to stores like Urban Outfitters and Gap to find similar jean vests, or visit websites like Topshop.com to find other styles you might like. And lets not forget about our Fashionistos…for those of you who want to get as many girls as Zac Effron, just put on one of these manly denim jackets to step up your style. Get out there and wear those jean jackets with pride! And if you happen to start singing those boy band songs that we all know so well, just blame it on the revival of '90s fashion!

Hint: Worried about the new fall season putting a damper on your jean vest? Don't be! Instead of wearing the vest with a sundress that bares a lot of skin, try wearing a long sleeve under the vest like this to keep from getting cold.

TREND: Denim Days

With summer officially nearing its end and Labor Day approaching, we’re all trying to sneak in some last minute warm weather fashion. Before you throw in the towel and resort to covering up those legs for the colder months, try a twist on the classic summer dress – denim. Denim was especially hot this summer and is great as a transition between seasons because of it’s never ending versatility. A denim dress is a causal, fun, and flirty alternative to your favorite jean shorts – perfect for a family barbecue or picnic. I love this denim dress and denim high waisted skirt. Pair it with braided wedges, chunky bangles, a bright belt, and a summer hat to complete the look. For an edgier look, check out this mini denim vest. Throw it on over a classic white sundress for an unexpected twist.

This Fashionista gets the look just right. Her zip-front dark denim dress is just the right combination between casual and dressy. Minimal jewelry and wedges make this a perfect day time ensemble. To transform this dress so it’s suitable for a night out, add your favorite earrings, peep-toe pumps, and a basic black clutch.

Denim is something that never goes out of style. It’s a staple in every Fashionista’s and Fashionisto’s wardrobe and works for every season. Although denim can seem boring at times because it’s so common, it can be fun and different as long as you’re willing to try out all the new styles and washes. Check out this website for some more fun ideas!
