TREND: Fur Fancy

What was once a symbol of high status and reserved for the upper class is now accessible to shoppers of any and every market worldwide. From Jackie O to Victoria Beckham to the runways of Yves Saint Laurent, everyones wintertime ensembles are being topped off with fur. What’s great about the evolution of fur is that many big name fashion labels have designed faux option instead of the real deal, which makes most everyone feel less guilty. Whether you prefer the real thing or just faking it (I’m partial to faux), adding on this extra stylish layer this winter is guaranteed to keep you warm and stylish. The most popular form of fur I’ve noticed around campus is the fur trimmed hooded coats as well as fur lined trapper hats. However, fur has also been adorned in the form of vests, boots, scarves and even handbags. No matter what way you wear it, fur has become quite the statement piece for any outfit and occasion.

This Fashionista’s take on the fur trend is both classic and chic. Her peacoat adorned with fur trim paired with black opaque tights and pointed oxfords make her look as if she’d been taken right from the 1950s or ‘60s. What’s also lovely about her coat is that her fur look is fashionably subtle. Anything trimmed with fur is an easy way to wear the trend without looking like you morphed into a werewolf.

So, whether you just want to keep warm or look stylish or both, take a walk on the wild side in something fur this season!

Hint: Stick to furs in colors that would naturally be found in the wild. Leave the pink furry boots to Snooki.
