Who ever thought the four-eyed nerdy look would ever be a trend? Well this season, bold square frames, round shapes, cat-eye styles and rebellious blacks have made their way from eyeglass stores to boutiques and stores all over. Now instead of feeling embarrassed to be wearing bifocals to create an easier way to see, Fashionistas everywhere are buying these accessories for the additional touch it adds to an outfit. Summertime is the perfect season to be fun and flirty with a pair of shades.

I spotted this Fashionista leaving the communication building and honestly the first thing I noticed was her shirt. A white silk top embroidered with a portrait of a woman all over, it was unusual at first then she turned around and I saw her camel high-waisted shorts with rectangular black framed glasses and it all worked. This retro inspired outfit was paired with gladiator black sandals and a black fringe shoulder bag giving it a western flare. This Fashionista's ensemble takes street chic to a whole new level. The black-rimmed glasses fit her face perfectly and add a geeky chic look. There is no doubt in my mind this Fashionista was turning heads with this outfit.

Hint: Certain styles look better on certain face shapes. Find the ones that are not only comfortable but fit your face as well. Also pair the glasses with the outfit, and make sure they compliment each other. Since cat-eye glasses are so popular this summer I have found an affordable pair that will make you the hottest Fashionista.

New York City definitely earns its nickname “The Melting Pot” merely by the eclectic senses of style alone. One can’t ride a subway without being pained by the woman in the too-tight pants, or the man in the filthy t-shirt. So, when given the opportunity to run into a young lady with a refined, modest sense of style, one can’t help but feel a sense of relief that this isn’t an apocalyptic movie where instead of zombies, all the people of New York are turned into bland drones condemned to tasteless ensembles. It gives us hope that these streets are breeding the next ‘It Girl’.

I encountered this Hong-Kong native Fashionista in the daily pre-work Starbucks line on Chambers Street. I immediately noticed her smart Ray-Ban frames, and realized it had actually been awhile since I saw someone wearing these cool oversized glasses for not only necessity, but as a fashion statement as well. Because this eyewear serves to be a daily fashion staple for this Fashionista, the rest of her outfit follows suit by being polished, yet hip. Her heather navy blue t-shirt dress is a great summer-time basic due to its light fabric, and it’s no fuss nature. The dress cinches at the waist to give her a younger silhouette, and therefore making it a great piece to transition from day-to-night with. She paired her dress with a white, iconic Goyard tote, which is essential for the smart woman on-the-go because it holds everything a woman needs, yet as most designer bags do, it shows that this girl does not mess around. We have been seeing a lot of the color navy this summer, it’s a great alternative to the New York City uniform of black-on-black, which we see in almost every other season. Summer is the time to keep an outfit fresh, and navy blue is the right move for those who feel they cannot wear bright colors, but still want to look crisp.

Hint: To get this Fashionista’s “Geek Chic” look for less, check out the eyewear line Tortoise and Blonde, which has great frames all under $100

Growing up as kids, we all knew that the worst thing that could possibly happen to us was to be glass ceilinged into the category of friendless losers with out anyway to change it. I remember being a witness to the days where a kid was caught eating his boogers or peeing his pants. No matter how cool that kid may have been he/she landed himself into a lonely seat on the bus for a long time. Redeeming oneself from the nerd status must have been a stressful goal but now the tables have turned. Being a nerd is officially the “cool” thing to be. By simply placing a pair of oversized spectacles on your face, you will surpass any prejudgments that were once made about being dubbed as a nerd.

These oversized glasses have been coined the name “readers” and are being sported by a significant amount of students at West Virginia University. Whether they are prescription or just an accessory to an outfit, both students and celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, Josh Harnett, and Demi Moore, love this nerdy look.

However, the real geek in the spotlight is this CollegeFashionista who was spotted on campus while ironically reading a book in between classes. Her outfit seems quite simple but with the addition of geeky readers, a splash of fun and uniqueness is added to her personality and style. The thick black frames that were once an open invitation to a good old-fashioned bully session are now the hottest trend on campus.

The negative connotation to intelligence that once made the social lives of nerds a nonexistent one is now abolished. Sexy and smart is selling again, especially for the downtown socialites who are marking their territory in style.

The '80s revival trend is continuing to build hype but if you want to look sophisticated and playful like this CollegeFashionista, check out these reader glasses from Urban Outfitters, ASOS, and American Apparel.

With today's technological advancement it seems as if almost everything in our lives has become wired. Your 5-year-old cousin has a cell phone. Your aunt is leaving you embarrassing comments on your Facebook wall. Even your Grandfather is jamming out to his favorite old school tunes on his iPod. Technology and the Internet has become for us, and even some people you may not expect, a daily or essential part of our lives.

Fashion is no exception. So many designers are attempting to dominate as many markets as possible with their brand name – especially technology. The hunt for cute gadgets and the accessories to go along with them isn’t so much a hunt anymore. One of my personal favorites is the “digital clutch” by Vivienne Tam for HP. While other designers take on the challenge of creating functional garments or accessories for the everyday techie.

That being said, it's no wonder that fashion’s influencers would soon catch on to what some would call a "revenge of the nerds" look. From large framed glasses to bowties to knee socks to cardigans it’s easy to unleash the inner geek that’s inside us all. This Fashionista’s plum colored socks first caught my eye while walking down Main St. Her wide framed glasses, which she actually does wear for prescription, add the perfect nerdy touch to her basic navy dress. While her leather jacket and cross-body bag keep give her outfit a cool street style.

Who knows, maybe dressing like a smarty pants will turn you into one?

Hint: Nervous you’ll look too nerdy? Skip the glasses and try a solid cardigan with bow accents or a pair of oxfords to create a more intellectual look.
