TREND: Holiday Parties

While I think all of us wish we could live in a Gossip Girl world, complete costume balls, no-limit shopping, and Chuck Bass, the sad truth is, we can’t. I would kill to be invited to multiple black tie affairs a month, with a cocktail party or two on the side. However, my holiday season is usually filled with leggings and sweatshirts stuck in the library studying for finals. When the rare occasion does come, though, I pull out all the stops for a good party dress.

I spotted this Fashionista heading to a dinner party last week. I loved how even though we were going to a more conservative dinner (grandparents were involved), she was not at all afraid to show some personality with a patterned tight (like this one) and sequined headband (like these). Patterned tights are usually pretty courageous to wear, and can come off as loud at times. However, this Fashionista paired it with a neutral skirt from American Apparel and a simple black cowl-neck top. Adding a final pop of silver flats, this Fashionista was in the holiday spirit.

I love draping myself in sequined cardigans and embellished shorts with tights for holiday (but not at the same time) parties. This is the time of year to show your bling. So instead of bundling up in chunky knits, try and get a little more creative, and get excited for the most wonderful time of the year.

Hint: If tights are too thin for the blizzard conditions, pull on some Under Armour running tights or leggings—they look just like leggings, but keep you warm!
