TREND: Let Loose

They say that if you don’t like the weather in New England, all you have to do is wait a minute for it to change. Unfortunately….this rule applies even when you do like the weather, and it seems that last week’s spring temperatures in the '70s were simply a tease. Next up in the weather forecast at Uconn is…snow. Even though it does not seem appropriate to have snow showers in April, Fashionista/os can make the best of the situation by sporting their best winter gear one more time.

This Fashionista broke her boots back out for the cold temperatures and also embraced one of the most popular recent trends: the loose shirt. Gone are the days of Britney Spears belly shirts and tight tank tops. This year, the bigger the shirt is, the better. This style allows Fashionistas to embrace their true and natural beauty by being conservative and fashionable. Loose shirts look great with Ieggings or jeans and can be dressed up or remain casual. I love the floral stitching design on this Fashionista’s loose shirt, as it adds subtle detail to a simple look. Her shirt is complemented by brown leather boots and neutral toned accessories. I especially love her tortoise shell watch.

Hint: Loose shirts like this Fashionista’s also look stylish when worn slightly off-the-shoulder!

TREND: Let Loose

Something about this Fashionista’s seafoam green tote, her lightweight bubble-sleeved jacket, her subtlety-studded top…something about her distressed jeans, her silver bangles and embellished flats…something about all of this makes her so understatedly cool. Maybe it’s the loose fit of everything or the color combinations of the green, the brown and the light washed denim. Or maybe it’s her awesome glasses! One thing for certain is that this Fashionista has put together a great spring look that’s uniquely hers.

The look is relaxed; her jeans are relaxed, her hair is relaxed. I feel relaxed just looking at her, but in an inspired, ‘let’s go shopping’ kind of way. I can’t exactly define her style the way I could categorize a preppy or rocker look. Her style has no agenda – it simply is. I love when an outfit looks thrown together rather than pieced together. Calculation is boring.

Budgets are usually tight which means you can’t change or update your wardrobe to the extent that you’d like. But you might surprise yourself by pairing worn-to-death items with other things in your wardrobe that you wouldn’t normally wear them with. Your attempt at a reinvented outfit might fail, but luckily it’ll be a mistake that won’t cost you anything. Literally. Summer is on its way so let loose, and don’t forget to experiment.

Hint: You don’t need to save metallic bangles for a night out or a more formal occasion. If you wake up in the morning feeling like you want to wear an armful of gold or silver – go for it.
