TREND: Sheer Library Chic

Last week, Delanie Carney from Boston University showed us that long skirts are in! But perhaps some of you are hesitant to go with a full-length skirt in a heavier fabric because that volume doesn’t suit you and you don’t want to look weighed down. Today’s Fashionista has the solution. Go sheer and layer over a pair of leggings or opaque footless tights. I am obsessed with the ceruleum blue of the skirt that pops against her black button-up blouse, which is also sheer. During Fashion Week we saw plenty of sheer, soft fabrics go down the runway like in the collections of Jenny Packham and Max Azria. These looks are, of course, for spring 2011 but while the weather still allows you can pull off some sheer right now as this Fashionista demonstrates.

With minimal accessories this Fashionista's look is quite simple and yet so eye-catching! She is also very poised, and good posture is the key to looking extra great in your clothing. Altogether she has achieved a long, flowing silhouette with a unique outfit.  I also adore her hair pulled-back and up. Up-dos are so sophisticated for daily wear because they give you a clean, professional look. Add a wicked pair of glasses that have a strong frame to add that librarian-esque vibe. Who thought wearing a long skirt, button-up top and glasses could look so fresh, young and flirty? Check out this chiffon maxi-skirt by Free People, or this one from Dillard’s that’s more budget-friendly.

Hint: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: invest in your eyewear! There are so many stylish frames nowadays which allow you to really have fun with your glasses. Contacts can be such a hassle anyway! Take a trip to Silver Lining Opticians in Soho to start your search for a new pair.
