TREND: Lightweight Knits

I'm recently really loving open-knit tops; I think that they're ultra feminine and chic, yet not too frilly or immature. I also really love how perfect they are for the current D.C. weather – they're great for the daytime because they're airy enough to keep you cool, yet not too bulky to be worn underneath a leather jacket at night. Meandering throughout campus, I was excited discover that many of my fellow GW students are also excited about the open-knit style; I've spotted numerous Fashionistas in Foggy Bottom wearing tops which epitomize this lightweight, open-knit trend.

I love this Fashionista's open-knit top from Topshop. With its lace detail, her top is feminine and delicate, having an almost vintage-like appearance. With her top, she sports a pair of dark-wash skinnies and over-the-knee boots from Dolce Vita. She has accessorized with numerous gold necklaces of varying lengths, adding another vintage element to her dainty style. When asked, she said she loves how her top is perfect for almost any occasion; she has found herself wearing it to Gelman to study and out to dinner with friends. She agreed with my belief that open-knit tops are certainly becoming a must-have springtime staple, the perfect transitional piece for the changing seasons.

Hint: Open and loosley-knit tops instantly allow Fashionistas to add a bit of delicate glamour to any look with ease. This season, experiment with an open-knit or loosely-knit top; for a slightly more feminine take on this style, try a top with lace appliques or details throughout. Pair these tops with colored skinnies or cargos and simple ballet flats for a great, super-chic look that will keep heads turning all season.
