TREND: Make A Statement

Campus has been buzzing lately with conversations of the drastic temperature drop that hit last week. While some may see the cold as a sign to get out their puffiest coats, BU's Fashionistas have been using it as an opportunity to showcase their chicest and warmest cold weather outfits.

This Fashionista chose a bold statement coat to shield her from the crisp air. The contrast of black and white make the piece an immediate attention grabber, while the longer length and heavy material keeps her warm. Although the print is bold, the classic shape and neutral colors make it wearable with almost any outfit. Our Fashionista chose to style her coat with black tights and a black scarf. By wearing basic black pieces, she creates a neutral foundation for her coat to give maximum impact. She also adds another color to the mix by styling her ensemble with a classic pair of brown cowboy boots.

Take a note from our Fashionista and pick bold cold weather pieces this season. It will ensure that you always look chic, no matter how much time or effort you invest in your outfit. Try a black and white plaid coat similar to our Fashionista’s. Or, a bright red wool coat will add color and style to your winter. A fun, embellished military coat is also trendy option for staying warm, while a ruffled tweed coat will look great over any ensemble. A fashionable statement coat is an easy way to stand out and stay warm during the Boston winter this year.

Hint: Plaid never goes out of style, and our Fashionista clearly knows that. Add plaid to your cool weather wardrobe with a trendy coat or preppy skirt. And don’t forget about those flannel shirts that have become a staple in every Fashionista’s closet. Not only is flannel warm and comfortable, but it also looks great when layered with coats and boots.

This Fashionista's two-toned light torquise and white beaded necklace portrays the power of the chunky statement necklace. She has paired it with a light pink simple textured tee tucked into a casual high waisted navy blue pencil skirt. This Fashionista has accented her look with silver gladiator sandals and kept it simple with a canvas tote and silver bracelet with a cream stone. This necklace, along with her sandals, balance her simple tee and skirt making it a head-to-toe fashionable ensemble. This Fashionista will stand out in the classroom without a doubt. To dress it up you could switch out the tee for a white ruffled blouse and slip on a pair of silver heels for a chic night-out look.
