TREND: Military Chic, Camel Cool

This season, Boston University Fashionistas have been marching down Commonwealth Avenue in two chic trends: military-inspired clothing and supple camel-colored jackets. Styled with leggings, basic tan leather boots and a boho-esque beanie, this Fashionista works it in her thigh-length military jacket. Her festive bright red shoulder bag adds a pop of color to the neutral nature of her outfit’s pallet.

There are other ways to channel the army: try a military-style denim jacket, worn over a warm long-sleeved T-shirt and paired with skinnies and your favorite boots. Use a canvas backpack to tote your books (not firearms!).

Rocking a pair of utilitarian boots is another stylish way to look ready for combat on campus. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Fleece and a chunky heel by Chelsea Crew Tolido.
2. Lace ups by Jeffrey Campbell.
3. Buckles galore by Dolce Vita.

Combine your fierce feet with a leather jacket, but soften the look with a cozy, feminine winter sweater layered underneath. I love this one from Anthropologie, especially when worn with a thin belt to accentuate your waist. Throw on some skinny jeans and you’re ready to take on the streets of Boston.

If it’s too chilly outside for just a leather jacket, embrace the luxurious world of camel. This retro coat from Madewell is a great staple – streamlined and basic, it goes with practically everything in your wardrobe.

God bless America, for the troops that protect us and for the clothes that they inspire us to wear.
