With New York fashion week just behind us, many will be fired up in anticipation for this coming spring and its fresh and fun new trends. There are a few trends though that you don’t have to wait until spring to indulge in. It looks as though there are no more rules when it comes to mixing color and pattern, so be bold! Look to incorporate bright colors and flashy patterns into your fall and winter wardrobe.
This Fashionista rocked her look in a bright red leather jacket and boldly printed tote bag. I was so drawn to this Fashionista’s jacket; it’s not too often when you come across red leather, and this gal made it look amazing. It has a striking architectural structure, but without looking stiff. I found a similar red faux leather jacket at Forever21, and guess what? It’s only 32 dollars! When you are wearing a bright color, like red, try pairing it with a contrasting color like a turquoise or blue.
This Fashionista has paired her bright color with a white dress, black tights and motorcycle boots. Very street chic. Another aspect of this outfit that I just love is her graphic print bag. The black and white pattern stands out against her red jacket. I suggest investing in a cool graphic print handbag to mix into your fall wardrobe. Check out Marimekko, a Finish brand whose textile designs are super fun. You can find their tote bags in an array of styles and patterns. I found one in their signature floral pattern, and another in an abstract monochromatic print.
Hint: If you are looking for ways to wear your bright colors and patterns, check out the recent Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 runway show. Marc’s use of minimalist line and bright color is really refreshing. Also check out Australian designer, Josh Goot and his Spring 2010 line. You will be amazed at his talent for mixing unconventional color and pattern. Its like jumping into a coloring book!
