TREND: Pretty Laid Back

As September approaches, students start thinking of how they can transition favorite summer pieces to fall without looking like they're still on vacation. Have no fear! You can turn your summer fashion loves into a fall relationship with the right accoutrements and color palette. The ever popular summer sundress is the perfect example. A variety of styles were seen this summer from bustier-inspired, nautical, color-blocked, and floaty empire waist. These were popular at campuses all over due to how comfortable and easy they are to wear, while still looking chic.

This downtown Fashionista spotted inside a subway station was transported to laid back feminine style by adding a lightweight pink sweater, brown braided belt, black sunglasses, gathered leather hobo bag, and simple flip flops to her multicolored floral sundress. I like how she emphasizes her waist with the belt, and by choosing brown leather accessories gives it a fall vibe. The great thing about sundresses is that you can throw one on and easily dress it up or down depending on your add-ons. It's also nice when you are running late for school, because you don't have to search for a top and a bottom!

Some ideas of ways to transition your summer dress to fall:

1. Ankle booties! They are bold, trendy, and give your innocent dress some edge with rocker flair.

2. A loose fitting boyfriend cardigan or an open-front sweater in a neutral shade. This gives you a more boho, rather than tea party look.

3. Opaque tights and prep school cool oxford shoes. Either in prints or brown leather, these shoes add a classic menswear touch to your outfit.
