I hope all of you Fashionistas and Fashionistos are enjoying the sun and freedom of summer! One of my favorite summer activities is going boating at beautiful Detroit Lake or the Willamette River, which is what I'll be doing this 4th of July weekend. A common look for days on the water is nautical red, navy and white. I chose to pull some pieces that put a fun, spirited twist on the traditional nautical look. Here are some tips on how to put your own spin on the trend
- Bright colors take a common nautical symbol, such as an anchor or knotted ropes, and wear them in non-traditional colors like neon greens, pinks and yellows. This tank top from Deliah's captures the tip perfectly.
- Cute kicks like a clean pair of white tennies look absolutely perfect on the boat. These Keds are easy to walk around the boat in and easy to slip off to relax in the sun.
- Knots give an instant allusion to a nautical theme, without being obvious. This Calypso bracelet is knotted and has a unique texture that makes it eye-catching and interesting.
- Stripes are essential to the nautical look. For a new update on an old favorite, opt for thick horizontal stripes in an offbeat color like mint or rust.
Have a great weekend full of fun in the sun!
