TREND: Ruffles

Sometimes people think that in order to stand out one needs to wear loud prints, bright colors or sequins, but this is not always true. This Fashionista proves that even though she is wearing muted neutral colors, her look is still fun and flirty.

The main focus in this look is her ruffled cream colored tank top. By wearing a top like this one it brings all of the focus towards one area of the outfit. An alternative way of doing that would be to wear a ruffled skirt with a basic plain tank top. Whichever route you choose to take, the key is to balance out the outfit. If you choose two overdone pieces together it can become extremely unflattering. This Fashionista’s black bodycon skirt is flattering because it hugs her body and it balances out the ruffles on the tank top. Though if you are looking for more of a daytime look then shorts would have also worked well with this top.

The metallic gold wedges that this Fashionista used to accessorize are the perfect finishing touch. Without going overboard in terms of her accessories she chose a pair of shoes that dressed up her look and elongated her legs all at the same time. A pair of flat metallic gold sandals could also be a great option if you want to go for a more casual look.

Remember that just because you want a flirty look it does not mean you need to go over the top. This Fashionista shows us that flirty can be done in a simple and classic way.

When the sun is shining, people are playing frisbee on the Quad, and prospective students are admiring campus in giddy tour groups, it can only mean one thing: summer is within reach. Spring and summer are the best times to bust out of the drab winter blues and flaunt your favorite tank tops and gladiator sandals that were collecting dust in your closet.

This Fashionista deserves an award for stepping out on a beautiful Monday afternoon with this ruffled, girly look. Not only did this eye-catching pattern stop me in my footsteps, but the ruffle all around her neck was just the right amount of detail to finish off this look with a special touch.

Sometimes people get tripped up by ruffles, pinning them as an evening look only. But when paired with some jean shorts and flat sneakers, this Fashionista shows us that ruffles are a great look for a summery afternoon too!

Try sweet tops and cardigans to bring out your ruffled, girly side.

TREND: Ruffles!

Not only were ruffles all over the runways for spring/summer 2010, but they have also been all over the University of Arizona campus. Lately, it seems that everywhere I look I spot another Fashionista wearing this ruffly trend. On the runways, they were presented in all shapes and sizes adding a feminine girly accent to every garment they met. From Paris to New York, designers like Chloe, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, and D&G were all getting ruffled.

On the runway, ruffles were a little outrageous for the everyday look, but here on our campus they have been tamed down to be the perfect accent to an outfit. This Fashionista did the trend right! She paired a feminine light pink ruffle top, with a pair of dark denim studded shorts, a black cardigan, and a fabulous pair of white gladiators with gold studs. It was the perfect daytime! But also this top could easily be taken from day to night. Pair this top with a pair of dark denim or even black skinny jeans, a pair of strappy sandals or black pumps, and maybe a blazer depending on the temperature, and you have the perfect evening outfit!
