TREND: Saddle Up

I was walking down Newbury Street today and I was amazed by the great deals on boots that its stores had to offer. In recent years, shoe fashion has exploded with a variety of funky and fun designs that defy gravity, boggle our minds, and compete with Picasso’s creativity. You can literally find anything these days: knee high studded riding boots, military boots, chunky glass heeled booties, vintage cowboy boots and everything in between.

This week’s Fashionista jazzed up her outfit with chestnut colored Nine West cowboy boots. Cowboy boots are everywhere and they're classic enough to always be in style. She complimented her boots with a pair of Gap 1969 skinny jeans, a mustard yellow velvet blazer from Anthropologie, a teal sheer shirt from Gap, and a vintage leather bag from Roots. The cobalt vest from the Gap accents the bright colors of the blazer and the tee offering good contrast to the grays and dark tones that we typically see in the winter. This Fashionista threw a studded Gap belt on over the tee and the vest to match the boots and glam up her look.

You can never go wrong with color and studs in the wintertime, even if it’s just a tiny color accent from OPI nail polish. Usually, most people shy away from bright colors and bold designs, but let me tell you, this season you have to make a bold statement. Don't be afraid to use different textures and layer. In fact, the fall 2010 collections of Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs encourage trendsetters everywhere to mix earth tones and neutrals with some bold colors.

As for the boots, you can find them ANYWHERE. All Saints is currently having a giant shoe sale with amazing boot and bootie styles for any type of gal. If you’re looking for more of a vintage winter look, check out Urban Outfitters for their variety of military boots and cowboy boots. Good boots come in all shapes and sizes so don’t shy away from thrift shops; you might be able to find a great pair of designer or vintage boots for a low price.

Also, don’t forget that studs are still in. If you don’t like studded boots, there are still different types of studs for you to explore. You can find great studded pants or bags at Bloomingdale's, or even on Gilt Groupe on the right day (only if you have a membership). J. Crew has a plethora of elegant studded leather belts and bracelets to glam up any outfit.
Be different, be edgy, and explore your personal style with studs and leather! Don't forget to add a splash of color as well!

TREND: Saddle Up

Hold your horses—one of my favorite footwear trends for this fall are the equestrian riding boots. The equestrian style boot has been a force among fashion houses such as Prada, and Bottega Veneta, but most frequently Ralph Lauren. It has also become a major trend among many Penn State University female students. Why? —Well, they are classic, functional, and comfortable from what I hear.

Even if you are not preparing to saddle up to a pony, these boots can be worn from day to night with both skirts and skinny jeans.

Just as this Fashionista, (who happens to be one of my favorites around campus) who stylishly spots an amazing pair of brown leather, tall, knee- high boots. Worn with a casual pair of blue, skinny jeans—she then adds a fall flare to her black sheer top, by rocking a colorful printed scarf. She accessorized perfectly with her choice of color complimentary brown leather bag, gold bracelet, and royal blue ring.

What she is wearing is perfect for a fall day here at Penn State University, or anywhere across the world! Stylish, and comfortable enough for the weather or a really long day of course work!

If you would like to give this trend a try for a night look—check out these incredible riding boots from Steve Madden, that you can pair with this dress from ASOS. Accessorize with gold and black leather items like a jacket, and purse—and you are set for a night on the town in a perfect pair of riding boots.
