TREND: Too School for Cool

For any true Fashionista/o, back to school really gives us an excuse to shop for new things. Whether it's a bed comforter, clothes or new dorm decor, back to school is definitely a fun time to shop. Especially for those who love to use the campus as their run way like I do, it’s awesome having this time to update all of my favorite accessories! I choose the accessories that are most valuable and most functional. When I saw this Fashionisto I knew he thought the same way because his back to school look included all the right accessories to allow you to get your daily duties accomplished while still looking stylish.

First things first, every Fashionisto needs to make sure getting a hair cut is number one on their to-do list. Once that has been taken care of and books have been purchased, think of updating your book bag. Most Fashionistos I see around campus rock back packs. Some rock cross body bags, but back packs give you more support when carrying heavy books. This Fashionisto shows off a very cool, colorful DC Backpack that is stylish and guaranteed to catch your eye!

Another must have back to school accessory is headphones. Not only do they keep you rocking to your favorite tunes throughout the day, but they can also add an urban flare to your look like the Fashionisto here. His style headphones are starting to become quite popular amongst the urban crowd. The decadent oversized DJ headphone such as Beats by Dre is the ultimate upgrade for your personal sound system, and works with any type of media device making your walks from class to class that much better.

You can’t forget about sunglasses! This accessory is perfect for shielding you from those sunny days. Whether it’s hot or cold outside, sunglasses are always a great accessory. Our Fashionisto here is wearing the classic, clean Ray-Ban brand. Last but not least, Fashionistos should invest in a great watch or several. It’s functional and fashionable; watches add amazing detail and sophistication to a look. It shows that one is mature, but also knows how to accessorize with some of the simplest things. This Fashionisto has a cool casual look and decided to rock a sleek, clean black watch to compliment his look.

Hint: Make your back to school shopping fun! Remember that electronics can be stylish too.

TREND: Too School for Cool

There’s certainly something to be said for the ultra-traditional collegiate look of a well-tailored blazer and loafers or Sperry Top-Siders, but these days you’re just as likely to see a respectable college student donning a leather jacket or motorcycle boots- the staples of past generation’s bad boys and girls. We’re rebels with a cause, and the rules of style propriety have gone almost out the window. Today’s Fashionista exemplifies this new twist on collegiate classic from head to toe, starting with a pair of geek-chic Ray-Ban glasses. From there, she layers on a bright purple checked button down from J. Crew and an Andrew Marc leather jacket. A pair of 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans are an easy match with a pair of TOMS– the go-to footwear for the socially conscious. All together, today’s Fashionista creates a look that gives a nod to all the elements of today’s collegiate: the nerd, the tomboy, the rebel, and the socially aware scholar.

Hint: If you’re in need of more inspiration for the new collegiate style, look no further than Balmain’s spring 2011 RTW show filled with leather jackets, funky, abstract print pants, and slouchy tanks. If your closet is already filled with TOMS, and you are looking for a new non-profit organization to support with your style, I highly recommend you check out Falling Whistles and their amazing collection of necklaces that support the effort for peace in the Congo.
