TREND: Transition into Fall

Thanks to Mother Nature and the rapid change in temperatures, September in Colorado can be a tricky month to dress for. The chilly and breezy mornings remind us that fall is coming, but the hot blistering afternoons tell us that summer is not quite gone. With that said, it is crucial to make outfit choices that may easily be transitioned from cool to warm temperatures.

This Fashionista is transition ready. Prepared for the heat of the day, she is wearing jeans and a sleeveless floral designed top. However, to accompany the chilly morning temperatures, she has paired her outfit with a baggy white sweater and matching flats. Pairing your outfit with an over-sized sweater allows for easy access to adjust to the temperatures throughout the day without having to change your entire outfit.

Aside from there practical use, over-sized sweaters are one of fall's favorite items- and mine too! Each fall I find myself falling in love with this trend. Not only are they warm and comfortable, but they are chic and versatile.Whether you pair it with jeans, leggings or tights, over-sized sweaters are available in a range of styles and colors, and can be used to create various different outfits. This look is totally fuss free and allows you to combine some of your favorite summer and fall pieces together.

Hint: Try this ruffled or this shawl collared sweater with your favorite summer pieces.

TREND: Transition Into Fall

Part of being a CollegeFashionista is staying in style on a budget. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is pass up the shops lining Michigan Avenue showcasing the latest trends and styles, especially when a new season is right around the corner. After all, how is one supposed to look chic wearing last season’s clothes? Sometimes the hardest transition to make is going from the hot Chicago weather to the cooler days of autumn. Trends like floral dresses and your favorite pair of sandals may still be in style but no longer be practical to wear.

My favorite thing about this Fashionista is her ability to take summer’s most popular fashions and put a twist on them by bringing them to the fall. One of the hottest items this summer was the floral printed dress. The bold colors and overall flirty look made this style appealing for many reason, one being how easy it was to wear and look polished. So why give up all this just for a season? Reach back into your closet and pull out your favorite floral mini and make it work for the fall. Pair the dress with an oversized cardigan and a pair of opaque tights. Darker colors warm up the bright floral print and keep you from looking like you forgot to turn a page in your calendar. Wearing your used fringe sandals with the same tights has a similar effect. Spend a few dollars on some fingerless leather gloves that match your cardigan or tights to give yourself an edgier look. It will contrast beautifully with your more feminine mini. Top it off, literally, with a knitted beret, perfect for keeping your coiffed hair in place on those infamous Windy City days.
