TREND: Walking Tall in Wedges

Though some Fashionistas are hardcore enough to strut around State College in stilettos, there is a relaxed and timeless alternative for the rest of us: the wedge heel. At the Valley Magazine Fashion Show, The Walk, on November 13th, I spotted this Valley Mag staff member wearing an adorable and comfortable-looking pair of heels- just one element to her effortlessly stylish outfit. These shoes were first invented in 1936 by one of my favorite designers, Salvatore Ferragamo. He experimented with materials like straw and cork to add major platform to the traditional heel. (Check out the full history of the wedge and many other styles of shoes here.) This Valley Magazine Fashionista shows that wedges can truly be worn with anything, pairing hers with lace tights and a T shirt. Wedges look great with destroyed jeans, summer dresses, or even a body-hugging pencil skirt. The biggest selling point- they are so ridiculously comfortable that you can wear them all day and night and almost forget that you’re towering a few inches above your normal stature. This Fashionista, as well as one of our own Style Gurus, Andrea, purchased their wedges at Payless. Try this precious purple pair for under $30. I recently ordered this pair from gojane.com for only $20, and am anxiously awaiting their arrival in the mail! When you need a few extra inches (especially if you need to see over the crowds at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade), I say go all the way with the wedge.

Style On,

Meridith

  1. I really love your site.. Pleasant colors & theme. Did you build this web site yourself? Please reply back as I’m hoping to create my own site and would like to find out where you got this from or just what the theme is called. Kudos!
