Time to retire your flip-flops Fashionistas. Fall fashion is in full swing and all your favorite stores are stocking their shelves with the season’s must-have boot collections. Ranging from thigh-high to ankle, suede to leather, boots are one of the most versatile and diverse items in fashion and can appeal to many different style-types.

Today’s Fashionista is wearing her boot of choice, the cowboy boot. Traditionally thought to be the rugged and country shoe of the west, this Fashionista turned totally rugged into totally chic. She is wearing a black, strapless dress that features a lace hemmed bottom, and has paired it with strands of pearl-white beads and black cowboy boots. Pairing her boots with an elegant black dress and beaded accessories, this Fashionista turned two extreme styles into one. At this year’s New York Fashion Week, designer Ralph Lauren showcased a spring collected filled with western-chic attire. Featuring subtle floral print maxi gowns to elegant chiffon gowns, Lauren paired this items with heavy western accents, creating some of the most glamorous western inspired attire.

To get this look, try incorporating some western accents into your chic wardrobe. Fringe, lace, ruffles and embroidered or embellished belts are a good place to start.

Hint: If you’re looking for cowboy boots, there are several different unique styles to choose from. Check out Steve Madden or Nordstrom for a large selection with lots of styles to choose from.

With only one week left until classes start up here at SHU, campus is beginning to get quite crowded. Students buying their books, making last minute schedule changes, moving in, and the like has brought life back to Sacred Heart. Up until these last couple of weeks, the hallways have been a ghost town. With this thought in mind, I began thinking of tumbleweeds, horses, and cowboys. When I saw this week’s Fashionista, I had to get a picture. Her western-inspired look is both trendy and fashionable, as well as an ironic twist on SHU transforming from an abandoned “ghost town” to a lively college campus.

The CollegeFashionista pictured is wearing a basic denim mini skirt and a loose-fitted striped tee. She styles the simple clothing with accessories that play up the Western feel. Her cognac colored belt gives a subtle hint to the West, but her boots scream it. Their rich, yet neutral color makes them a statement and a go-to shoe for a pop of excitement. A bland outfit can be altered into an amazing look by switching out flip-flops for some cowboy boots.

Every store I’ve been to lately has an array of cowboy boots and booties. Every Fashionista should have a pair for this fall. Here are a few great places to find some. A fantastic belt, whether it’s embellished, woven, or embroidered, is also a fashionable substitution to the plain old black belt, sans detail. Adding a little spice to a blank canvas makes an ordinary outfit unique. This Fashionista has done just that with her Western twist on every college girl’s jean mini and tee shirt.

Hint: Adding one or two Western elements to jazz up your look is enough. Overdoing it becomes cliché and what a CollegeFashionista does not want to look like! As Coco Chanel puts it, “Take one thing off before you leave the house.” These truly are words to live by.
