With D.C. temperatures now disturbingly close to the single-digits, Fashionistas and Fashionistos throughout campus are sporting their warmest attire. Cold temperatures don't necessarily require an oversized, down coat; I've found that, with layers worn underneath, peacoats can be equally as warm. That being said, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for those students who fashionably wear cold-weather coats that aren't puffy and filled with down feathers.
I spotted this Fashionisto when I was leaving one of my exams this week. This Fashionisto is sporting cuffed, khaki pants, a really cool pair of ankle boots and an amazing double-breasted peacoat. Beneath his coat, he's wearing a crisp oxford shirt with a warm cashmere cardigan layered over it. To his outfit, he's added a cozy, long, thickly-knitted, charcoal-colored scarf with fringe. His peacoat and multiple layers keep him comfortably warm in the now-freezing D.C. temperatures without the use of down feathers. This Fashionisto's effortlessly chic look transitions perfectly from day-to-night and he can easily go out to dinner or a bar and not be weighed down by an extremely bulky winter coat.
Hint: For many, this is the last weekend of the fall semester. Therefore, while you're celebrating with dinner outings or bar crawls this weekend, don't hesitate to sport a stylish peacoat instead of a large down coat. Also, don't forget to add some layers underneath to ensure warmth in these extremely cold temperatures. Peacoats are a winter staple for both Fashionistos and Fashionistas and, with layers underneath, are a warm, fashion-forward alternative to the typical, puffy winter coat. These great coats are sure to please and will add an effortlessly chic element to your weekend look!
