When I think of fall, I immediately think of layering and peacoats. For some reason, I feel like everyone owns their favorite different variation of the peacoat – solid black, houndstooth, red, belted, double breasted, long, etc. Don't get me wrong, I do think the peacoat is a classic fall staple, but it's so refreshing to see the rising popularity of other jacket styles, such as biker and military. I think that's why I was so drawn to today's Fashionista. Her field jacket set her apart from the crowd of peacoats and hoodies.

This Fashionista exemplifies casual chic for this season. Her denim shorts, paired with tights, emphasized her petite figure, and her combat boots, paired with her long socks, added effortless edge to her look. But what I really loved about her whole outfit was her field jacket, which she purchased from J.Crew (and even received a discount by showing her student ID) around the end of summer. Army green is the color of the season, especially since the military look is so popular this year. The field jacket is a great (and more forgiving) alternative to the tighter, more structured military jacket. In addition, this muted green is neutral enough to compliment almost anything you can find in your wardrobe.

For a great field jacket, J.Crew still a couple of options – such as their "Downtown" field jacket and their "Washed-Out Ripstop" field jacket. I'm also a fan of the linen utility jacket from Victoria's Secret, which comes in four different colors. So, try a field jacket on and challenge the mighty peacoat this season. After all, fall is the perfect time to experiment with different kinds of layering.
