WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Getaway

After spending five days staring at a computer screen in the office and running around in the city’s sweltering heat it begins to feel like a mini vacation or a weekend getaway is the only cure for the stress. Weekend getaways always seem to cure that inevitable craving for spontaneity, excitement and a different atmosphere.  It can be so freeing to throw some clothes in your suitcase, pack up the car and say goodbye to the city for a few days. Whether your headed to the Hamptons for a relaxing weekend at the beach or jetting off to Chicago to visit a friend, mini-vacations are the perfect time to unwind and go on a little adventure while bringing your sweet summer style to a new place.

Packing for a weekend getaway can be tricky- especially since I always seem to be in a rush! I always seem to find myself frantically tossing my favorite pieces of clothing into a bag on Friday afternoon and hoping I can hit the road before the stalemate that is rush hour on the Garden State Parkway. I always try to wear my most fun and unique pieces when I go away as a way of making a style statement in a different atmosphere. Part of what’s so great about going on vacation is seeing what people are wearing and incorporating some of that’s place’s fashion into your own style.

I spotted this Fashionista at a beer and barbecue event I attended last weekend at the Tequila Park Taqueria in Manhattan. Though the event was buzzing with young Fashionistas and Fashionistos showing off some cool summer trends while sipping on their IPAS, this Fashionista’s sweet printed romper and chunky wooden wedges really stood out to me. Her neutral, cream colored wedges complement the bold oranges and blues of her romper while her natural, wavy hair gives the outfit a more relaxed look. Her outfit proved very versatile as she could easily transition from a relaxed day time barbecue to an exciting night on the town. Versatility is very important to packing a weekend getaway wardrobe. Since you don’t have much room in your suitcase you have to prioritize pieces that can take you from day to night.

One Simple Change: Grab a pair of funky shades and swap the wedges for simple sandals if you’re spending the day exploring art museums or your favorite beach town.
