What to Wear

Question from Vikki: I am a foreign student in Beijing (Beijing Foreign Studies University) and a majority of the year it's extremely cold. Please help me out on appropriate must-have clothing for these colder times when I still have classes to attend and outings with friends.

My Answer: No matter if you are in Beijing or Bloomington, the fall will bring about cooler temperatures. Stocking up on some of my must-have autumn pieces is a must to keeping yourself cozy and chic.
One thing that is a must for cooler weather is a great coat. I literally shop for coats year round because they may just be my favorite type of garment. Coats don't need to be dreary, oversized pieces just to keep you warm. They can really be the focal point for a truly special outfit. If your personal style is more edgy, try finding a leather jacket with an unexpected detail, like this leather and pony hair combo. For a more feminine approach, try something in a classic silhouette in a rich, bold color. And as any Fashionista can tell you, you can't go wrong with fur (real or faux) and checking out local vintage stores is a great resource for these finds.

Another part of dressing for cooler weather is layering basics. Take your favorite maxis from summer and bring them into fall my pairing them with a sweater. Style Mint is also a perfect go-to for basic T's with a selection of tops at a CollegeFashionista approved price.

Vikki, you are one lucky gal. Not only do you get to study in fabulous city like Beijing, but you get to wear layers year round!
