Question from Lindsey: I noticed Derek Lam, Vena Cava and other designer's are showing "the flatform" this season. Do you recommend in investing in this shoe or is it a trend that will fade soon?
My Advice: The flatform is a very uniquely structured shoe. I would say it most resembles a wedge. However, where a wedge goes up on an incline, the flatform steadily hangs at an even level. When I first saw this shoe at Derek Lam's spring 2011 runway show, it brought me back to a pair of white stacked Steve Madden tennis shoes I once owned in the 7th grade. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Steve Madden's back in middle school, but, like an ex-boyfriend, some things are better left in the past.
However, I do think this shoe is pretty cool and would look stellar with a pair of well fitted trousers and a loose cami this spring. I would stay away from investing in a budget-busting designer pair because I don't know how long this flat-stacked shoe will be around. Leave it to Elizabeth and James and Topshop to come out with a cheaper version of Lam's runway shoe.
For now, don’t break the bank to buy this über-trendy shoe and let it be one of those purchases that might get left behind next season.
